sume, I would need to start over with the vm installs, considering they were in the middle of installing the OS. Host machine is setup with mdadm raid.

check the file system for errors + scrub the raid array if you are paranoid

XFS doesn't even have a filesystem check utility πŸ™‚

Does it actually do something? XFS famously does a placebo check.

Yes, it actually does something. It's fixed a couple of systems here for me that wouldn't mount a data drive.

      Interesting. With XFS?

Yepp. I know the system is XFS. I'm trying to get connected to it now, but it lost it's AD connection and I don't have a local login on it, lol.

Can't you boot the machine using some LiveCD and alter the PAM order / add pam_unix/pam_localuser? You could also change root's password this way. This only works if the drive is not encrypted or you have the key.

Yeah, I could do that, but I like my job, lol. In an emergency that's what we do, but this isn't an emergency (the system is up, my login isn't working).

      If you say so πŸ˜‰

@matteo-nunziati said in Hypervisor preference - costs included:

Also one thing to consider is that some hypervisor level backup solutions will cost in the 500€-750€ ballpark. A single paid version of veeam agent server (which does CBT) costs 130 per guest! And I cite veeam just because it is widespread.

Even with 10 machines this is a bit of a cost IMHO. In my previous work I've spent 500€ for a backup solution which managed 12 VMs - with all the fancy stuff: CBT, dedup, incremental, blablabla and yes: a single pane of plastic.

I do not think that costs are to be kept out of the equation here.

Very true. But in most cases I look at, we don't use an agent of that nature. Veeam's agent is great, but I'd see it as more special case.

For ease and speed and better management, I highly recommend using WP-CLI for all of your downloading, updating, configuration, etc. One like of WP-CLI will eliminate most of this installation, while making it easier to maintain in the long run.

Found it. You have to share the site to any users first, before that option shows up. Just sharing documents doesn't actually generate that option. So once you share a document, it's shared. That option isn't for shared out documents, it's for the site itself.

some changes to the configuration of the phone.

This is one reason I want it done, but rarely do i need to do it from the PBX itself.

Because I create my own config files, I do not get the magic "rebuild config and reboot" button that the paid EPM has in FreePBX.

Generally I only need this when things happen like today when an internal FreePBX system went unexpectedly offline and was rebooted along with the entire Hyper-V server.

BLF subscriptions seem to not update real well to events like that.

Understood, talking about the Paid EPM, Do you see a reason to use it in the Small Business World?

Loads. Even for internal staff, why walk to a phone if you can reboot from your desk?

      I like the exercise. πŸ™‚

Scott likes to talk like everyone uses state systems when that is far from the case.

Scott likes to talk like everyone should use state systems, which is nearly always the case.

But even if you don't, if you have automated rebuild and install scripts, or use cloud computing, you rarely want to restore the whole thing rather than just the data. It's way more than just state systems. We've been doing this since long before state systems were a thing.

With a stand-alone windows file server is not so bad redeploying it with the help of powershell. But it’s so different compare to Linux.

Yes, much more work for sure. But no matter what OS you use, no matter what your backup situation is, you should have a rapid new deployment system to rebuild systems whether it is script, state, or whatever.

I've never liked how limiting Weebly is. I realize you want to do this for as little as possible but a Vultr instance at $2.50 per month is nearly free. You can setup your own WordPress install for free and get setup properly right from the start.

You'll notice performance issues in an instance that small unless you aren't backing your site with a database.

Either way, its better than what I have now. Its not fully loading on weebly.

Most web hosting plans allow unlimited domains and such, so I'm sure someone here can help out. I seen someone above offer. Anything will be better than weebly

Ah, thank you. Macrium Reflect was the product I couldn't remember. It worked very well for someone I knew when he was in a similar situation.

Anyway, I will probably use clonezilla again

+1 one for Macrium Reflect as the best easy way to go about it (I've had some unsuccessful Clonezilla attempts before). In my experience with Acronis, you can't cherry pick partitions (like the OEM recovery partition) at clone time, but you can with Macrium Reflect.
