There are multiple guides here to do this. And again jumping more than a single version is not the proper way to handle it. Even if it works.

Dragonfly is tough by default because unless you use something like Salt, you can't connect to it to get keys to it in the first place. You can curl keys to it, of course. But you need totally different processes than you would typically use with any other OS to get it set up.

That means it's not even Ansible friendly. Pretty much agent-based tools like Puppet, Salt, etc... is the way to go.

Yup, unless you have some way to push the Ansible key ahead of time, like in a curl. So back to the beginning there πŸ™‚

Got it, it was a packaging versioning issue. I had accidentally set the verison to 8.0 when it was 7.1.1. I got a clean install and set the package version correctly and now it works fine.

If you want to know how to set the version accurately automatically, try this that I just made...

    export PKG_PATH="http://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/pkgsrc/packages/NetBSD/`uname -m`/`uname -r`/All/"

That's exactly what I was thinking but didn't say anything. I wanted to see what you'd do.

It comes down to security vs. convenience. Performance is something completely different and can be tuned/scheduled.

Do you leave your keys in your vehicles ignition? Do you leave your front door wide open? Do you write your personal identity numbers on your arm?

    No? Use anti-virus.

Do you still use it if you have servers that are not accessed directly or accessing anything? What will the AV be scanning?

If the servers aren't "serving" anything out, then what would be the purpose of the servers?

AV only is for files, not other traffic. Which is nearly everything outside of the SMB. FIle sharing is a minor task percentage wise. Think about a database server, for example. Or a proxy, or a load balancer, or an XMPP server, or a PBX....

I was also thinking of any possibility that a malicious program made its way onto a server intended for something other than file services. I should clarify that I'm only talking about a Windows Server. Load balancers running FreeBSD, DB on bare metal, etc I wouldn't think about putting it on those. Haha honestly, my post was more in the facetious now that I've re-read it.

I lacked more specific information in my post though about server OS or deliverable. That's my bad.

If I did it for 4 employees, chances are they'd all be using Linux and other Free and open source software... there wouldn't be anything to put in SnipeIT.

Exactly, I'm dealing with several companies like this. Some are 100% open source and have nothing to track. Others have huge numbers of users/employees but so little to track that there is still no point. Like maybe five licenses total.

RHEL if support is required, CentOS if I'm being lazy on updates (joke); beginning to just use Fedora Server for everything not requiring support. I will probably start phasing out CentOS.

That's what we are doing. CentOS is nearly gone now. Only required for Zimbra.

Zimbra actually requires CentOS? Can't use FS? 😐

Zimbra does not require CentOS, you can also use Ubuntu which others might not like.

We mean in the context of the RPM distos. It only supports Ubuntu LTS and not current which is arguably not even a form of support since Ubuntu’s own support path can be to force you to current meaning Zimbra isn’t actually supported in that ecosystem.

Yeah, Zimbra supports Ubuntu 16.04 LTS but yeah we are almost on 18.04

Yeah. So far worse than only supporting CentOS 7 in the RPM world. At least RHEL 7 offers full support from the vendor, not partial.

Is it worth me installing a 64bit Excel? We're using 32bit 2016 at present.

64 bits will not make a difference here, it is most likely some network congestion that you area encountering.

All of our current desktop applications are VB.Net, but as we begin to update, all future code will be C#.

Granted, we have a lot of legacy code and simple updates will not always rate a rewrite to C# due to labor costs.

Jokes aside, Mailcow works very well and the author's support is awesome; this one I use and recommend.
I would say that Mailcheap's web site has lots of information, but that's me. I don't use it as I host my own email (besides using Office 365/G Suite/others depending on the client). I just seemed to me that it checked all @thwr needs while being recommended by people I trust.

@bbigford I manage 3 separate Synology NAS units for clients, 2 with dynamic IPs and 1 with static IP and the requirements were essentially exactly the same for all 3. Ensure the correct port was directed to the device and DSM just worked. Wonder if your user has missed something.

That's what I'm thinking. I responded a moment before you did with a previous conflict regarding proper PAT. If he would allow me to just log in and do it myself that would cost them less operationally. I typically follow up with reminder emails that if I'm left to do my work with proper access, it costs them less overall. Comes down to a trust issue; it is just going to take time to bust through their ego and allow me to do my job.

I think the coolest thing about it is being a flat file setup, you can check the whole CMS into Git and do all of your edits and updates through configuration management.

So I would just have create a new repo from within the root directory?

Well I was thinking more update the site, make page changes, etc on my local repo. Push changes up to my repo in Gitlab/Github whatever and then have a post-receive hook that pushes changes to the web server.
