I thought the definition of "IT Pro" was: "anyone and everyone who manages to figure out how to make a spiceworks account". Or is that just SW's definition?

RE: Would You Hire Someone in IT Who Does Not Have a Home Lab
What ever happened to "work / life balance"? I don't have a home lab because I unplug when I leave the office. Wouldn't mind having a lab to dick around with between 9am-6pm, but I have no desire to have noisy ass servers blaring on in my home. So I guess I'd be fuct if I ever went to find a new job?

RE: The Most Effective Meetings
@MrWright4hire So you're an expert at talking about stuff then? That will definitely make you a strong candidate for starting IT positions. Definitely quote your post here to your new boss and coworkers.

RE: The Most Effective Meetings
Truth. I missed a meeting with some IBM reseller guys on Thursday. Why? Because when I accepted the Teams call invite, that was scheduled in my mind. Thursday morning they decide it's going to be at the office, which is an hour away. The first meeting with these guys was the same, me rushing to the office to deal with something that could have easily been a call.

RE: What Are You Doing Right Now
Glad I'm not at the office today... The power has been out all morning, even the emergency lights are out. Found out that Georgia Power "hit a substation", which sounds pretty serious. So I guess the office folks get a day off!

It's clear a non-trivial amount of effort went into making that. Opening and closing reminded me of some Karlheinz Stockhausen music I heard during undergrad.
That's actually an improvised synth piece done by the singer, using a little pocket device that's smaller than a cell phone. And I definitely need to check out some Karlheinz Stockhausen. Thanks for watching!

RE: Blocking of sites based on geographical location
A couple of years ago, we discovered that AT&T geoblocks all VOIP traffic from India. We sent some configured phones to them, because the bosses were told by AT&T that it would work fine. Nope. All the tracert results clearly showed them dropping the traffic. But then a few months ago, it started working! The India team emailed me asking to change out the names/extensions, and since then we've had no problems.
