As I already mentioned above the goal is to manage virtual machines. Literally. With salt.modules.virt I can do a lot of things with KVM like list_snapshots, migrate, pause, reset and resume the named VM along with setmem, setcpu and other great stuff. The idea is to have a script or possibly a set of scripts or some kind of self-made console that would allow me to manage VMs centrally on both Hyper-V and KVM the same way without having to rewrite each salt.modules.virt command using PowerShell or direct WMI calls. Of course it's doable and will work but seems to be out of SaltStack concept for me.

Not that I like Windows way better (sometimes it's good sometimes it's bad) but I swear, someone needs to take a look at the way these systems are designed!

There is definitely a learning curve to Linux coming from a life full of Windows. Once you learn it, though, you'll be that much better at all things Linux going forward! I think it's fun and a LOT of it makes way more sense after you learn the reasoning behind it.

Weird but working now. I went back in the ini file for 5.6 and changed it to another #, saved it, restarted service, went into wordpress and it didn't register. Went back to ini in 5.6, changed it again, saved, and restarted services and this time it did register. WHATEVER!

      @black3dynamite said in Wordpress/php issue:

Instead of uninstalling php5, just disable it.

      # Disable php5 enable php7 a2dismod php5 a2enmod php7 systemctl restart apache2.service

Well, that sure makes things easier 🙂

@aaronstuder said in Anyone using AdGuard?:

@nashbrydges I understand that. It would need to be done correctly.

Even when done correctly, you now have a single exposure point instead of many hundreds. You're relying fully on 1 source to properly encrypt traffic between you and itself and then itself and the source, rather than distributing the risk across the hundreds of sites you might visit. It's easy to inspect the SSL cert validity of a website that you visit directly, not possible if you are routing via a 3rd party who is managing that connection on your behalf.

This concern would only apply to the HTTPS inspection though. Using their DNS service is like using any other DNS service.

@aaronstuder said in Securing BootStack behind a Ubuntu NGINX Reverse Proxy:

This setup is a LXC host, running both NGINX and BookStack in a different containers.

I forward 80/443 from the host to the NGINX container.

Then setup NGINX to reverse proxy to another container (BookStack, NextCloud, etc.)

Each app has it's own container.

How's the performance doing it that way?

LXC has essentially zero overhead. Should act exactly like doing them on the same box.

+1 for Acrylic Wifi , they also have free version.

If I were to set this up at home behind a Comcast gateway modem, I would need to setup MTA to do HostLookup Native?

And to clarify, that is if you don't want to do split DNS.

      New Commands are:

The salt-key command is used to manage all of the keys on the master. To list the keys that are on the master:

      salt-key -L

The keys that have been rejected, accepted, and pending acceptance are listed. The easiest way to accept the minion key is to accept all pending keys:

      salt-key -A

@quixoticjustin said in Managing Windows Server Updates - Alternative to WSUS?:

Sodium has some really basic pieces of that already built in using Salt. It's very early and definitely not where it should be, but it's Salt with a GUI that is specifically tackling this problem.

That's nice to hear, when I took a peak at Sodium it looked like it was still pretty far behind at using a lot of Salt's capability.

We don't really care about a GUI in this situation, and we're already going to be requiring the power of Salt.

I am curious about how it is implemented in Sodium though, and how the user is expected to interact with it.
