yeah... that whole thing from this morning should be in this thread.

That is why I told them a long time ago that they have to lock a damned thread prior to forking. that way no new posts can go in it until they are done.

      Anyway found a fix/solution.

Logged into the server and downloaded the images I wanted into the images folder. Then on the page I edited the source code and changed what it enters

      <img width="200" height="50" alt="wynnstay.png" src="http://ostickets/helpdesk/file.php?key=yicwxqo3dmnjhclxirdzgrpxljt7rrqu&expires=1485388800&signature=0cd9c75022866fe708bac4a35557e6b5e8b95ee4">

      to

<img src="/helpdesk/images/xxxxxxxx.png> etc and that works.

Not sure why it trying to add images with that code lol

Considering the solution - I have been thinking for several days that perhaps this issue stemmed from a problem with the disk on the original system. It might be slightly damaged - somehow not enough to prevent it from booting, but enough to cause the seen issues in the clonezilla image.

If I cared, I could run chkdsk /r on the system a few times, then take a clonezilla image again, and then try restoring that.

      meh.

@Dashrender - I think low voltage is one of those things that a lot of installers cut corners on because most people aren't going to check their work above the ceilings or down the walls. The client typically just cares that the jacks work and that's it.

Are you implying that the client will check other things? Like power wires, etc? I highly doubt it.

No but cabling and recabling is sometimes done after buildout of an office. No inspector checking the work.

They might manage a rolling update system for forever, but there will easily be a technology change that comes along that makes that not possible.

I agree - like Apple switching to the Intel processors.

Right, what if the future is on ARM. Unlikely, but it could happen.

Not as unlikely as you might think. MS has announced Windows on ARM, and it's suppose to ship 4th quarter 2017 or 1st 2018. MS already has emulators for x64 (I have to assume x86 too) that they claim run at near full speed.

If/when ARM over take x64 processors (assuming that's not already the case), I don't see why that change won't happen. Then it will be a question of how long MS supports both?

Being ON ARM isn't the issue, being ONLY on ARM, is. They already have an ARM version.

but they didn't have an emulator that allowed you run most if not all apps that can currently run on x64 Windows 10.

Are they going to EMULATE on ARM64 in the future?

I meant to ask if they plan on using ARM64 chips and emulating AMD64 processes on top of them. It seems like a crazy process. I'd expect insane overhead.

That crazy overhead is what was expected - but apparently, the current emulators are doing a really good job - I said before that it was near full speed - I need to go back and confirm that, but the reports at the time were definitely positive about the testing so far.

Not long ago it was in "fanciful far off dreams" land: https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/85365/thinking-x86-emulation-arm

@BRRABill said in Backups - how much does backup performance matter to you?:

All a function of time and need and money.

Only time and money, need in a business is always a function of money.

I mean all of them combine.

      You are correct.

      Need dictates the other two.

Well, the other two dictate need. Businesses aren't a "need" based thing. They have a goal: profits. Backup restore time is a discussion about time. So the technical piece gives us the time axis and that we are talking about a business gives us a cost one. That's it. The idea of "need" should never really come up in a business, businesses never need to do anything. They desire profits and all actions should reflect that. The concept of needs only serves to confuse people from the singular mission.

Unfortunately I have to get the offsite completed (and at 4.5TB) and about half way through I still have a ways to go....

I might have to make separate backup jobs to run against these VM's while the initial upload is going.

Kind of sucks.... but it has to happen....

I saw that, too. That's the method for a single desktop/clone stuck in a status that doesn't delete as normal. In my case, I have a whole pool that's empty, but the pool definition itself isn't deleting.

@NattNatt I do not exactly about that information... but, let's make a guess about it, If the third host is on the same space and there are not any walls that might affect the signal strength, Is it good idea to put the ethernet cable and connect this into the router, as well as the other two hosts?.

There is a weighing machine next to a desktop and another host 100 meters away from the others two.

If a put a switch instead of a router could this work like in the same way?. It is just for local access in order to get into an application that is gonna be in a virtual machine.

Yes, and if you could put the switch in the midpoint so each cable run is ~ 50 metres, that would be the ideal solution imo.
