@scottalanmiller Excel document on a Windows server.

To track changes from the filesystem, you need auditing enabled. In some cases, Excel itself tracks changes. With O365 you "log into" Excel and it tracks them that way.

FYI - to get into a Volume License agreement with Microsoft, you must purchase 5 licenses to start. Any 5. For example 5 Windows desktops Software Assurance licenses.

The cheapest option that I am currently aware of is 4 Windows Server CALs and a single Windows Desktop upgrade or SA.

That appears to be the case. Virtualization and RAID seem to just universally confuse, I suppose.

The issue now with Avaya is that we can no longer have confidence that they will be able to survive to continue to support their products. An investment like this in something like storage often requires a five to ten year confidence window, with a PBX this is generally more like ten to twenty years.

This isn't quite true. They filed Chapt 11, not 7.

I know, and Chap 11 is enough that you can't rely on the finances of a company. A company that people have been suspecting was going to be not financially viable for years.

@DustinB3403 Personally I prefer robocopy. Hell of a lot faster, and you can make sure it will copy exactly how you want....

      Robocopy <Source> <Destination> /copyall /xo /w:0 /r:0 /log:Logfile.txt

Tail the log file (Wintail is handy for this) as having it log to the console slows down copy's.

And it is my ERL in the colo. Not sure why yet, but it is rerouting the connection to the default port forward rule. I tried logging in with my normal admin credentials and it worked.

Seems like any continued investment into the ASA would be a bad idea. Either a replacement for it or running something along side of it would make more sense.

@stacksofplates said in Ubiquiti Security Gateway - Is there a software version:

@JaredBusch Right. That's why I always assumed the USG was really limited. That is all I could find for network settings.

@Dashrender Ah ok. That makes sense

it was limited only via the GUI. If you created a JSON file on the controller in the correct location, you could do darn near anything a EdgeRouter can.

The GUI is finally catching up with the features.

Ah ok. Ya that's mostly how I use mine anyway. Like I said, I've never used one so I'm running on assumptions.

I'm pretty sure you can actually fully control the APs through the CLI and JSON files. I think you can use the CLI to tell it where to get the JSON file (a none Unifi controller), but damn. .talk about pain.

I didn't realize you could use the config files for the APs. I've only used the busybox shell for joining the controller. Makes sense that it would use them though.

I think that's how most if not all of it works. using the GUI, you update the JSON files, they are then downloaded to the devices, tada.

That is also my understanding but not something I've ever checked or tested

@FATeknollogee said in XS 7 or HyperV 2016:

@Dashrender said in XS 7 or HyperV 2016:

Wouldn't that mean exposing your XS to the internet? I suppose not if you lock the inbound ports to the IP of the XO, where ever it's hosted. So from a management point of view, that's great, but I don't think most would end up using the backup portion in that situation, soooo...

How is this different from using (as an example) the built-in replication tool in Hyper-V? Either way you still need the 'net?

I've never tested this, so I am working from an assumption. But upon the assumption here is my explanation.

You have a XS host in your office in Dallas, 100 Mb internet connection.

The MSP has a XO VM running in a hosted DC in Cali that's used to manage the XS host. How does the data flow to the backup target? Does it flow through the XO system then to the target? I know that Veeam works this way. Assuming it does flow through the XO box, the data would flow out the 100 Mb connection to the XO, and then to where ever the backup target is. Assuming that's at the customer site, that would also be on that single 100 Mb connection.

Again - I admit to an assumption here - if my assumption is wrong, please don't be an ass about it, just inform me, and the rest here.

So with that assumption, assuming you want your first backup target to be onsite, then you'd either need a separate backup solution, or another copy of XS locally that runs backups inside the network.

Actually, no, Veeam does not work that way.

By default, the paid version of Veeam installs proxy stuff on each host as well as the box that Veeam is installed on. When a backup job runs, it chooses the best place to run through each time unless you specify a specific option in the backup job.

That's that. You can use extremely limited (2) VMs for testing or development, nothing more. You VPS, no cloud computing. No multi-tenant. So that is why Apple has no VPS presence, it's not allowed. You can get PS, but not VPS.

I definitely haven't had a cap while downloading updates, I'm pegging my 100 mb down pipe.

Right, but then the sad thing is why was the download taking so long if I was only seeing the backup running.. F'n windows update process.....

yep.. the process lies about what's going on.. I think there must be some type of post download processing going on, but it's still listed at downloading, but the network speed shows no download happening.

Are you using cached mode in Outlook? I turned that off back in 2007 and have kept it off ever since. Because our users access 12 calendars of other users daily, and the non owned calendars are only updated when you open the calendar, this resulted in lag when a user would open those calendars, sometimes making someone think there was nothing slotted, and it would populate and now be double booked.

I'm seeing twenty somethings living at home far more today than when I was that age. I don't think that it was all that normal fifteen years ago. Not sure if it is normal now, but I'd say more normal, at least.

@NetworkNerd said in Outlook Slow to Open, Interesting tracert to Hosted E-mail Provider:

Check out the latency on that 4th hop. At that point traffic goes across Level 3's network (supposedly still a server in Dallas). We brought this up with our provider (LightSpar), and they are telling us that despite the latency showing to be high on the tracert, it is not delaying the exchange of information between us and our hosted Exchange server.

It can't be, you prove that it is not having any affect from your ping and traceroute. Your latency is under 50ms, so its own response time is irrelevant.

We are just starting to plan our hardware refresh. I'm seriously considering Scale. I like the info that I've seen so far.

We love ours, it has been great.

I'm still pulling down information..... I need a vibrant DR plan in place or decided on before I commit to a platform. It always seems to be overlooked as an afterthought.

Common approach is to get something like a Synology or a ReadyNAS and use the Scale HC3 built in snapshot and export backup functionality to push full image backups on a schedule out to the NAS.
