I'll add a note for clarity given the title... SaltStack does not do authentication like AD does. AD does not do patching of any sort like Salt does. Salt is an alternative to common myths about AD functionality, but not to actual AD functionality. But you can use Salt to do distributed local authentication management, which does replace the need for AD, but is very different than what is being discussed here. In this case Salt is replacing GPO, not AD.

@scottalanmiller - I can't seem to find how I would implement the Azure AD outside-in approach. I see tons of stuff on how I have already installed AADConnect and sync out.

You just... use it. There's nothing to know. Shut down AD, use Azure AD.

I think he's saying that his on-prem network would then need access to his Azure AD for user/computer authentication.

Well the users just authenticate to it. But since Azure AD comes with your hosted email, it's weird to want old on prem email to authenticate to it, too.

I will be ditching my Exchange 2010 but was wondering how it would be affected by it. So what about about the rest of the on-prem servers that are all AD domain members?

That'll be case by case. What's an example workload?

Filemaker Server, ShoreTel Server, an ERP server, File and Print servers, RDGateway/Terminal Server, vCenter, Spiceworks, PRTG, Veeam

Good to hear. LDAP integration is on my personal list of things to test.

Yeah, I am going to test it and see how it behaves. I also need to see how to do it when deploying NextCloud on Vultr (if I can ever get a storage instance larger than 125GB; they keep selling out of them).

Okay, I signed in and then closed the lid.

Light was showing standby. I left it for about 45 minutes. opened lid. Keyboard lights came on but the screen did not come back up. Pressing keys does nothing. Pressing power button does nothing. hard power cycle required to power on.

So, seems to be the same issue.

Does it happen when using Korora 25 Gnome?

I have not installed anything else.

So to completely answer the question I posited.

      Install ibus-anthy

      dnf -y install ibus-anthy

Next run input selector from the CLI or GUI.
      0_1495549541178_upload-da2d3633-a4c6-497c-9cb5-c82623e6ad7d
      0_1495549633007_upload-1ea06f93-cb6f-427c-8886-ed7a19c8279f

Change the Input method from "No Input Method" to "IBus"
      0_1495549692864_upload-a5e64fb0-1322-4b81-b3ee-671e4520bff9

Note, the preferences link here does NOT work for me.

Log out and back in, and you will see the language selector up by the clock in the tray.

      0_1495549958212_upload-3359ebb2-a45f-450c-a35e-2ef1e318ee6c

      Right click and choose preferences.
      0_1495549999445_upload-e4fa99c7-bc1a-4758-87cb-ae8e36722bae

Switch to the Input Method tab and click Add.
      0_1495550040150_upload-c98af063-de99-4348-a3e6-165bd59d3f66

Select the language you want to add.
      0_1495550072443_upload-602a1475-8934-456d-ace0-23c9396be86d

Select the input type for the language. In this case we want Anthy in order to get the Romaji entry of the Kana.

As a side note, my wife does not use the Kana Kanji input method. I am not sure how many Japanese actually use that input method. The one time I put my laptop into that mode, she could not type.
      0_1495550099006_upload-07b4232e-aa21-40f7-ab9f-834a08abc418

After adding Anthy, you can click prefernces and make any custom changes you want.

      0_1495550270252_upload-faeb12de-b3d8-47e9-8ff4-91ffe62d456f

The other thing you will want to do is setup a key combo to switch languages.
I like the alt + backtick (grave)
Click the button after the next method and setup whatever key combo you want.

I am thinking to discuss how Cloud option would fit in our environment. Sorry by mistake I have provided you wrong info that we have Upload speed 10Mbps, while we actually have 20Mbps !!

Maybe creating separate Topic will be good to discuss about Cloud options ?

      Found exactly what I needed.

"A Group is a collection of Backblaze users. All Groups have billing centrally managed by an administrator and allow administrators to keep track of the Group member’s backup statuses, B2 usage, and any alerts that members may have on their Backblaze accounts. Best of all, Groups bring added functionality to Backblaze at no extra cost."

As everybody noticed, the delivery vector for these phishings is email. So an email filtering engine that is capable of detecting phishing attacks, either by recurrent pattern detection (like Cyren), or via URL extraction and checks (like Kaspersky or BitDefender), when in place, will keep your users safe. These phishing emails are also caught by open source engines like the veteran SpamAssassin or the new kid on the block OrangeAssassin (from SpamExperts).

I saw this marked as solved but can't seem to find the post that mentions the solution/what the OP ended up doing.

I was wondering how much time it would add to my job if I took on a client that was using full disk encryption. After a few posts it was clear that it would be additional overhead.

      Yeah, definitely some for sure.

But potentially tiny amounts if you tell them that they must be present for any reboots you need to make.

Possibly. They might be okay with that.

@FATeknollogee The other thing to remember is that choosing the RHVH at installation likely changes the default layouts from what we normally see in a generic minimal install.

If it was just printers I wouldn't think twice about just using some APs in bridged mode. For PCs I would make sure their (the users) expectations are set correctly and make sure you don't have a some database application that is real sensitive to latency running on the link. As cheap as it is to try, I would try it for one set up and then do the rest if it meets their expectations.

Depending on the units, you can get really good latency on wireless links. but you need good ones. Some people argue that it beats wired. it doesn't, but it's good enough that people start to imagine that it does.

@matteo-nunziati said in Benefits of using open source GPL software:

Back to main OP questions, GPL/BSD and so are useful because:

you get more support form community. something quite difficult with closed source . In the latter case it is mostly empirical evidence, with opensource you can look at the code. Alao you can still buy enterprise support with opensource.

Basically open source maintains every benefit of closed source PLUS lots of its own benefits.
