Sure, but to Gene's point - you're not going to be installing crapware with Chocolatey - but the MS Store pre-loads your machine with a shit ton, and really, the only way to get rid of if all is using PowerShell.

I love the first post for info sake itself... I just don't see the need to mention Choco in the same thread - it serves an entirely different purpose - not to mention the fact that it isn't even loaded by default, so if it's there - YOU know it's there.

And again, you know how to install and uninstall applications with Chocolatey.

But you may not know (or want to know how to learn to use Microsoft's App Store) and maybe you prefer to use a shell to remove applications from add and remove.

While you know what you've installed with Choco, doesn't mean you know how to remove programs like in the OP which, again installed during the evening hours without me having installed it.

I know I could use a tool like Create-Synchronicity to force 1 other directory to match the source, but I would prefer to find and list the differences in the directories.
      Maybe powershell can help?

Yeah, PowerShell can help with this in the same way closing the front door of a house will fix a fire inside of it.

Is there anything inside the file that can tell you? For example, if you write a script that cats each file or whayever and looks for specific string, then moves it if it matches.

I don't know what those files are, so ya. Just thinking out loud without any info.

No, because they are just ancient like ~20 + years old, no extension or really anything to hit on. Apple still supports Postscript Type 1 fonts, but nothing else does.

I managed to get it to work with what I needed with the above.

Additionally I created two reports 1) listing all of he postscript type 1 fonts and 2) listing truetype and opentype fonts.

So now we can build a list of things that needs to get upgraded.

To find the non-extension'd postscript type 1 fonts I used

      find . -type f -d -empty >> old-crap.txt

To find the modern fonts I used

find . -name '*.ttf' -d >> modern-font.txt and just replaced .ttf with .otf, .otc, .ttc, .tte and .dfont and appended the same modern-font.txt file for each of those.

LOL - If I were the boss, I could do that. She has already ordered me to remove her from the monthly updates - so I have to nag her to do those manually, they can't be pushed to her via WSUS, because of reboots.

Make sure you have a "get it in writing to remove HIPAA requirement automation."

OH, good one.. She's breaking HIPAA by not being updated.

Over a certain time frame, yeah. 🙂 That's going to be the big motivation here. Maybe he should even go to the owners and say "as you title me an IT decision maker, I meed a sign off to allow disregarding the law and a statement that I'm not allowed to follow HIPAA against my requirements, knowledge, and recommendations." Don't argue it, just make them state that they've accepted responsibility by demanding he not follow HIPAA.

But since automatic is disabled, he has no insight to know the time frame is being kept. So yeah.

Right, even if she promises to do it as HIPAA requires, he needs to be indemnified from that.

On Server, no issue. SSH the same as with Linux. SSH on Windows 10 is "single user" just like anything else on Windows 10.

So then why would they have the statement about "usually to correct problems" as to me this would be a two person use. One who is using the desktop and the other administrator who is working on fixing an issue via ssh (presumably while the other user is using said system).

I'm not bothering to reread anything, but MS has long allowed admin connections.

Yes this has been a known fact for as long as i can remember... Admins are exempt for administrative purposes.

      @Pete-S
We were not sure they were dBase files. Even Oracle database uses .dbf extension for data files.

I understand. You can't be sure until you try but usually you'll know if you're running Oracle because you'll have oracle listener and other services running as well as a completely different folder structure. When you find files that are dbf somewhere, they're usually dBase because you can make a small database inside an application just by importing some libraries. So dBase isn't something that has to be installed on the computer but Oracle is.

      brew install macosvpn

      sudo macosvpn create --l2tp Atlantic --endpoint atlantic.example.com --username ' ' --password ' ' --shared-secret s3same

You can provide ' ' for both the username and password, this allows any user to fill in as required.

I like 5nine when you are setting up a new environment and you don't have a domain setup yet. You don't have to go through the rigamaroll of setting up the hyper-v server and your machine to talk to each other. You use 5nine and get your Domain setup in a virtual machine and then join the Hyper-v and your machine to it.

Yeah, it is definitely good to get you going.

Any open source and free KVM backup software

FOSS is not a requirement to me.

If there was a robust package I could use to get agentless and CBT and file level restore on KVM, I will buy it, if it is reasonable.

There was a thread on the other site about Unitrends having agentless on it sometime this year. Ill have to see if I can find it.

But I cannot even install Unitrends on Hyper-V server.............

Are we allowed to post links from there?

      Yes

      Since when?

Since the person who made up that insane rule was removed from the site.

Would that insane person be Dave?

      Who is Dave?

      Nvm.

Oh, Dave from over there? I've never heard him called Dave before. Sorry, I knew it was a joke but couldn't figure out what the joke was.

As for Sharepoint - You don't get that much storage in Sharepoint in O365, so you'll likely be paying for more storage there. Sharepoint also has a number of files per site limit, just something else to watch out for.

For future reference to anyone wondering, I spoke to three different O365 reps today and they said the limit has been bumped to 1 million items so we'll be good for a while!

      That's a bit more!

Here is what I have so far for important features outside of the standard. Do you guys see anything that is more important than another?

      Anything I'm missing completely?

It doesn't support Toughswitches yet, no support for NVR or cameras, no support for Mfi devices. I wish it would replace Unifi controller too. At the moment it only picked up 2 nano stations, so just too limited for me. Perhaps in the future they add additional devices, firmware upgrades alone across the board would be huge.

Isnt mFi pretty much dead? Really sucks too but I think on ubnt forums the pressed and got leadership to admit they abandoned it in the vine...

I believe that is correct. It was in one of the threads about the ancient vulnerability in them not getting patched or something like that.
