I might implement a script like this. Care to share the script itself?

Not back in till Wednesday but it's a simple one so far

Asks for a hostname on a prompt and runs hostnamectl
Then asks for ip to assign and runs a few sed commands to edit the cfg-eth0 file.

So the main idea is to run the command/script when root logs in next.

HP are fast heading into a don't buy list for me. Every time I deal with them or their products it is a head-ache.

I LOVE HP products, I like their ethos and I don't like Dell's sales tactics but too many things keep pushing me away.

Ha we've had the opposite. Dell has been kind of a disaster for us. Ha who knows.

    @scottalanmiller said in Replacing Evernote?:

@guyinpv we use one OneNote per client. That way the data is portable per client. If a client wants a copy, they can have it. If a client leaves, we can archive their documents.

    That's a lot of notebooks!

I figured my Rolodex-style tab system would work much the same once I can share the tabs, the client can get into the tab and all the pages within.

But I can see the benefit of one notebook per client. Just need an easy way to navigate them. The way ON lets me browse notebooks is annoying. Doesn't lend itself well to having dozens or even hundreds of notebooks.

Yup, but it makes it much easier to have different security per client. It's all in Sharepoint, so very easy to manage.

Been using for a long time off and on, but my experience wasn't the same. It did have bugs, I reported a couple of them. Pinning tabs was quirky, some behaviors were quirky, some pages didn't load right for online apps.
Of course it didn't have integration with LastPass for a long time so that alone prevented me from using for anything serious.

I think it's fine to have a browser that really cracks down on ads, but I consider it more of a utility browser, I just couldn't use it for regular work.

If all else fails, I can always tell the client to run a Join.me session from somewhere else in the network.

assuming they can get on the internet when your server is down. 😉

At some point in the escalation process, the physical visit will be necessary.

Usually this is me asking them to look at their router and cable modem for the lights, tell them to call the ISP.
Check for lights on the server. Lights on the NIC port, etc.

Sometimes I'll have a savvy person ping stuff for me.

If you have Azure AD Connect in place, when you log in to o365 it will tell you "Synced with Active Directory" in the Sync column of your User list.

I did put some text pattern matches on a transport rule
    "IT Professional"
    "IT Professionals' list"
    IT Staffing
    "Contracted Program*"
    "Telecom user*"
"Target Industry:" << this one is very common in the 'buy user lists/dbs for your company'
    "Dear Sir/Madam"
^^ that one actually is catching a email from a legit company that sends us invoices/PO, that phrase is actually auto-generated in every email. Annoying.

Phrases like this are common throughout most of these emails.

Seems to be working well so far.

Did you not use available resources as there are thousands of posts on Spiceworks about this topic, more than any other topic. How did you manage to avoid the common knowledge around such a basic, and loudly discussed, topic? How is your knowledge outdated by nearly a decade?

Most of the world does not use Spiceworks.
A lot of IT admins choose not to engage in IT communities.
PPTP VPN on 2012 R2 server installs is acceptable to some.

    Drops mic, walks away

A free and easy to setup VPN. Managed one at my last job.

You managed a PPTP? You should have replaced that one

it was 2012 R2, using AES256 and dropped the connection if 256 was not supported. I cranked the security settings way up. Job didnt want to pay for Cisco VPN licenses. Had to make use of what I could.

    OpenVPN is free 🙂

Plus Server 2012R2 has both SSTP and L2TP/IPSEC built in.

Its been a year and trying to block it out, but I think I did use L2TP/IPSEC....That would make sense...
    hmmmmm. Can't remember....

When you configured things like IKE, phase 1 and 2 and so on: IPsec

yes. published a remote app. Users need access to that from machines that may not be company owned. Put RDPguard in place to ban IPs of multiple failed login attempts.

If there is a VPN, then we presume that there is no UDP traffic. Most VPNs are TCP.

    Really early impressions of SparkleShare:

It is based on git, I truly did not know git could be used with anything other than text files.
    alt text

The host setup is a script that installs a git server , since it is git you could acually use gitlab, github or bitbucket as your server host.

Windows client listed on the webpage (1.4) is not the newest version available even though it is the only version listed. Version 1.5
    alt text

Client tracks files added and deleted, as well as versions of certain file types.
    alt text

Versions of a docx file and ability to recover
    alt text
**Edit ( For some strange reason, the time of the versions of the files is not actually my current time. Screen captures where taken at around 19:00 and file versions show 17:50)

Tomorrow I'll setup another client to test the syncing process between clients 😃

I wonder, when you change preferences do those changes get applied once, or if the user is pre-existing on the system, are they ignored?
