      @dashrender

RAID would be provided by SS.

He would need a controller that is pass-through.

Technically S2D is designed to be used by DAS systems (or JBODs if you like to make Scott facepalm), and not internal server storage... even though it works just fine.

There's no problem to use RAID controller instead of a basic HBA as long as you a) patch the registry (see my link below) or use special "filter" driver to report "RAID" bus (sic!) as SATA or SAS, and b) disable write-back cache on BOTH controller and disk itself, so all writes become atomic.

Storage Spaces Direct: Enabling S2D work with unsupported device types (BusType = NVMe, RAID, Fibre Channel). Part 1: Registry hack

      https://www.starwindsoftware.com/blog/resolving-enable-clusters2d-bus-type-support-issue-on-some-storage-controllers

P.S. It's a BAD idea to use anything like that in production because as long as Microsoft support will discover your S2D configuration isn't supported they will pull out and walk away with a grin face.

I wonder if this could be used in other serialized applications? Machine learning? Genomic research? Seems like this has a much broader application then just mining.

Yes, but there are bigger systems for that.

It is not a new nickname. I have no idea if The Register started it or not, but I have seen it around.

What a weird one it is, it's so obtuse even reading the article I could not figure out that they were talking about Google. I had to read the technical article that they referenced.

If there was a robust package I could use to get agentless and CBT and file level restore on KVM, I will buy it, if it is reasonable.

There was a thread on the other site about Unitrends having agentless on it sometime this year. Ill have to see if I can find it.

But I cannot even install Unitrends on Hyper-V server.............

Are we allowed to post links from there?

      Yes

      Since when?

Since the person who made up that insane rule was removed from the site.

Would that insane person be Dave?

      Who is Dave?

      Nvm.

Oh, Dave from over there? I've never heard him called Dave before. Sorry, I knew it was a joke but couldn't figure out what the joke was.

As for Sharepoint - You don't get that much storage in Sharepoint in O365, so you'll likely be paying for more storage there. Sharepoint also has a number of files per site limit, just something else to watch out for.

For future reference to anyone wondering, I spoke to three different O365 reps today and they said the limit has been bumped to 1 million items so we'll be good for a while!

      That's a bit more!

      That is just so odd.

Yeah, it was the only setting that made any sense under the connectivity option. Might be a bug, but seems odd that with it disabled, you can register the account. With it enabled and WiFi disabled, you can't register the account.

@dustinb3403 said in PORT - Rant about unsupported OS connecting to company VPN:

Why did it take 30+ calls to find out that the doctors personal equipment is running Ubuntu?

It took 30 calls and a 6 hour round trip to discover it was running Ubuntu - because their remote access solution wouldn't work either - likely because local kid didn't want them to know it Ubuntu - he was likely saying - aww, those idiots at the hospital, they don't know anything, Ubuntu will run anything.. LOL

Even if the application that the hospital is using, was built for Windows 2000, has no bearing on the matter of the VPN dropping the client.

Why the vpn server didn't have logging to say it was dropped because it was a blacklisted OS or anything else is the part that is insane. Even Cisco has this functionality. . (lol.. . )

      Ok cool.

Now looking at another switch 46 and 48 have a priority of 7, and 26 a priority of 4. (without an override).

Should I set everything to be like below?

      46-7
      48-6
      26-4

Doesn't really matter. If you have no traffic on any other DSCP tags those priorities never apply.

Also does not matter much if you are not saturating the switch port in the first place.

Does this mean the switch has some form of UTM or that the controller at Meraki does, and this switch can just tie in.

They can do some UTM... but when I was using them it was completely port and destination based. As in, we see all of this traffic going to facebook.com over port 443.

not that it matters, but my question would be - is it killed the the closest part to the user, or is it killed at the firewall on outbound traffic?

What do you mean? I used the wrong term. The switches do packet inspection based on destination and port. You can do dropping at the switch level or at the firewall level. But you can do that on most enterprise switches, even the Netgear I was using at the last job could do that.

Aww, i've never had the need, so didn't know.

It's not really something I've ever used. Just part of an ACL you can drop into place. Our network team here uses that functionality fairly extensively.

Perhaps my new Unifi switches can do it, my old HP's were rather limited, I don't think they could do something like this.

@fateknollogee said in Just need a basic Switch - to act as a Hub:

@DustinB3403 Why are you calling it a "hub"?

Because there is no switching taking place. The devices simply ask for a dhcp address, and go. All switches are hubs, so a basic unmanaged switch.

      Wtf are you talking about?

My guess - a confusion between switching and routing.

Probably wants a switch, but is calling it a hub, not realizing that a hub is a specific thing that sends all traffic out all ports (layer 1).

In this case, either would probably work, but hubs are limited to 10/100,...

That's true, the GBit standard prohibits hubs.

@QuixoticJeremy Are you bored again? We need a hub that can get around Ethernet standards and pass traffic at gigabit speeds!

Ha, ha ha ha, ha.... pass. lol
