I wish people will recognize that they suck on their job and stop blaming their computer or IT department when they fail.

You say tech savvy. Does that mean he is correct in what he is saying? If so there really cant be a complaint. If hes wrong then you can document it and prove it. People like this i create special tags (ticketing) for so I can reference anything they've ever claimed/done.

What's the special tag name? Smart Ass? Special?

      (CIO) next to their name

      Hey now.

Possible, yes. Easy. No since the find command never shows that.

Would there be a better approach? I'm trying to create a list of things to make people clean up their crap, and I can show them "hey this hasn't been access in X years. . . delete it or I will"

I am interested in Docker, on Windows Server 2016.

Obvious question is... why? I don't mean that to sound like Docker is bad, but Docker is really not meant for IT, but rather for developers. You can use it in IT, but given that the obvious use cases aren't real strong, this doesn't give us a good guess as to what about it is interesting you and what you are looking to learn about it.

Its because its a cool technology which I am interested in. Do you know of any docker specific forums? Perhaps this will be more useful in that space...

I do keep typing 'dicker' rather than 'docker'. Its amusing.

I think your biggest challenge will be just how new Docker is on Windows. I tend to type docket instead of Docker. We talked about Docker at MangoCon 2017 🙂

      What particular area was discussed?

Very general, but looking at how Docker and LXC differed in technology and intent.

Yep, cant say i've heard of LXC.

LOL, LXC is the big container leader. Docker is just tacked onto it. Docker is LXC under the hood.

Not anymore. They dropped LXC around 2 years ago. They wrote their own library in Go called libcontainer.

Had to to be able to port to Windows.

So, you are pointing towards the external jbod solution? The Dell chassis seems a bit dated to me...

It can't be any more dated than the MD1000. (though I didn't look up your server)

Do you want the possibility to expand (MD1000) versus having to replace 8 drives later?

I found some posts talking about MD1000 being picky with drives, don’t accept >4Tb… what do you think about that?

Well, considering I have 8x 8TB drives in mine, I'd say those posts are full of shit. I've had HGST and Seagate Ironwolf's in it.

It depends on the HBA you use, not the MD1000. The MD1000 is nothing more than a long cable attached to your server's internal RAID card.

Maybe there's a firmware or something for the MD1000, that may have been done when I did a system-wide firmware/drive update on the server via Dell Server Update Utility.

Well, we are one step newer, so that might be it.

      # fwconsole ma list | grep firewall | firewall | 13.0.46.1 | Enabled | AGPLv3+ |

I do not know the CLI command to revert, but it is simple to do in the GUI.

CLick "Check upgrades and then expand the Firewall and you will have a previous versions option.

Tested and you are right, rolling back to 45.5 and the message goes away.

You could upgrade to edge and see if it is different, but I would just wait for the next update.

Well see the office wifi is talking to only office devices, the guest wifi hell it's a wild wild west. Non profit or not lol don't think I want to pay for every device we have in here 🙂

I don't follow. You can put bandwidth caps on the guest VLAN at the firewall if you want to keep that network from stealing all the bandwidth. I think I have my guest network limited to like 6 Mb/s

Doing this is not as easy as it sounds and because it is a traffic policy, it will affect overall throughput.

Ya, I just never get around to it.

      For two reasons really.

Some of the projects are purely made for myself, so I just use MySQL and Navicat and do my thing. Or the data is so rarely accessed, people just come to me to find out something.

The project is temporary or purely an archive.

For those project which will be accessed by others, the data either sits in Excel because it's not that much data anyway, or I build out a little web interface using a CMS though it might lack some CUD, at least others can read/browse the data.

The problem with these things is that, when data is needed, it's needed NOW BLAST YOU! But once we're done, it's barely needed and thus not worth the time to build a crud app around it.

And my final excuse, down here around 10%, I just don't care any more. If somebody needs a report, I gather and extract the data and make a pretty report as needed. Too much other stuff happening. For example, creating a DVD video from source footage when the boss took a trip. Yes, I do that, lol

@tim_g said in CALs: Silly or Not?:

In that example, their authentication could have been done on their AD server (as one example), which is not a web-workload server. That's why they would then require a CAL, as they mentioned.

If their authentication was done on their front-end web-workload server (web server via mangoDB as in the Mangolassi case, i think), then no CALs are needed.

I tend to agree with this as well.

      @FATeknollogee

You've said that the bosses want the networks to be separate.
You've also said that company B provides a service for company A akin to B providing email services to A, so A needs access to B's network for that single service.

All that said - what is the goal in splitting the networks? Why do it? If you don't know why the bosses want this - ask them. Let's not worry about the how of splitting yet allowing things to continue to work, let's work on the why first - because the helps lead to the correct solution for the goal.
