I read the Knowbe4 Blog Daily. I love it!

I saw this attack on there this morning.

I signed up for the email summaries. Great blog site.

I love how their blog articles are technical, but also include a summary for non-technical people.

Do a check disk on it as well. It might have errors and windows might have mounted it read only for safety.

Microsoft no longer expecting to hit their billion device number.

They made that announcement months ago. or at least I heard they did from Paul Thurrott.

Am I incorrect in thinking that license wise you could use Veeam Free Endpoint protection to backup bare metal servers?
Does the licensing say desktop OS only?

I don't recall seeing anything about Server or Desktop OSes in the licensing with the Endpoint Recovery Free.

      0_1471959639679_veeam-coverage.png

      OK Servers are specifically allowed
      https://www.veeam.com/endpoint-backup-free.html

      Even servers are free? Wow!

It's a one off type solution. No central management, so I'm not really surprised. I'm guessing the idea here is, if a company isn't going to pay for a paid backup solution, then what is the harm in allowing them to use this free product there.

If/when the company decides managing everything separately, the hope is they will move to the paid product.

I guess it is to keep them from just using Windows Backup.

@tiagom said in Simple but Effective Packet Loss Monitor?:

To install one of the larger monitoring packages just for some simple packet loss monitoring seems like overkill. Especially since its like 10 lines to script this.

      https://bash.cyberciti.biz/monitoring/monitor-windows-linux-server-with-ping-script/

Everything is either a little more, or a little less, than I want. But this might suffice. Thanks.

I've used their product before. It's pretty cool. If you have multiple servers (and are using the paid version), it will handle load balancing between the servers and all for you, automatically... Last time I tested it was with VMware.

Edit: Only the paid version does the automatic load balancing, IIRC.

Testing this and just had my first case of it totally crashing out on me. Just stopped getting messages but stayed open without any indication that something was wrong. Had to reboot as it could not be shut down.

@Seitan said in Has Anyone Played with KVM-VDI?:

@dafyre yes, you can create regular machines - they are called "simple machines". But still KVM-VDI is more vdi oriented.

Since the KVM market lacks a good, solid, standard GUI management option like XenServer has in XenOrchestra, that might be a spot that KVM-VDI makes more sense than you might think at first glance.

That is why I was asking. I've got WebVirtmgr on my hosted system and it's... okay. It does the job, at least.

Lots of VMs creates a licensing nightmare. Sure with a Datacenter license that would be no big deal, but I don't have that.

That's my take away as well.

Why would you put it month, day, year? Every programmer can tell you how crazy that is. Why the odd order?

Sorry I should have added a /sarcasm tag. Edited to prevent confusion. I though the #merica hashtag I was replying too was enough.

My #merica tag was dead serious.... I'm always dead serious, never joking...
