The single login per computer is probably pretty easy to change, and I can add that to the change request.

Seems like this died on the vine 😞

I would love to make use of this if the issues raised above were resolved.

Still preferred fallocate instead of dd to create a swap file?

      dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile count=4096 bs=1MiB && chmod 600 /swapfile && mkswap /swapfile && swapon /swapfile && echo "/swapfile swap swap defaults 0 0">>/etc/fstab

Still using swap file? Memory is cheap. I don't recall a server where I created swap partition or swap file.

Memory is NOT cheap, not at all.

It is if you own it. If you rent your hardware, yeah, it adds up.

Even if I own it, throwing away 2-3GB of RAM makes no sense. Now, if I own it, I can easily assign 4GB of RAM then remove it once installed, by why? That's harder to script and still no benefit.

It's a bad habit to see resources as cheap and so waste them just because you can. Extra memory doesn't improve performance, it hurts it (just the tiniest bit). And it's not free, if you always apply twice as much RAM as you use (or four times, here), that gets costly one way or another. Either you wasted money overspeccing in the beginning, or you are stuck buying more now.

I believe ./run.sh restarts all services, and I suspect that includes Nginx.

Yes, Nginx is inside a Docker container. But there are three.

      All you need is...

systemctl start docker systemctl enable docker

And you are good to go. It's just a process that needs to be started like any other. There's nothing to know about Docker in this instance. Think of it as the server itself, it just needs to be turned on.

Postcards basically looks just like Textable, but is free.

OK huh - free? that seems unexpected... but, I'm guessing SMS between carriers is generally free nowadays... soooo....

You still pay for your SMS usage

In that case - Assuming all of your customers are on carriers that have an email to SMS gateway - you can do this completely free through email.

Now to discover that, you'll have to do some work - find what carriers are in use by your customers, then check for a gateway... that could be time consuming.. but hey - could really pay off with a free solution.

Just an FYI, I followed the guide using CentOS 7 Server and it installed no hiccups. It's up and working now, first try. Don't think that the docs have changed.

they have a flip phone, so SMS isn't an option, but those people are so few that it doesn't affect the masses.

Huh? Every flip phone and service I've had in the 90s and early 2000s had SMS texting.

That was definitely not my experience. I've had cell service continuously since 1992 and did not get access to texting until more like 2002 and never sent or received a text until I would guess after 2006. But I had email on my phone before that and talked with loads of people because it was common in business then, because of Blackberry devices, to have email on the phones. ANd because texting was costly and rarely available, they had Blackberry messenger instead of texting on the devices. We didn't use it, but it was there.

Not my own experience. Texting was big for me and my circle back then, regardless of your experience. Besides the point though... Being a flip phone had nothing to do with SMS.

I like hangouts, but i think its way too complicated for non-techy users. Hangouts really doesn't like texting phone contacts. It almost forces you to convert everyone to Google Contacts. Also if you have Google Voice, it will randomly text some people with your Google Voice number . It took me awhile to figure out that I was texting people from Google Voice instead of my carrier number. I found that in settings it tries to reply with the last number you used.

Overall its better than any texting app I have used, but its a real pain in the ass to configure and nothing is really explained.

Yeah, I guess I can see that. What's weird is how Airdroid and Hangouts works...Airdroid will only show you messages sent and received to/from your carrier's number. But in Hangouts, it aggregates your Google chat, carrier, and Google Voice messsages all into one stream. Kind of annoying tbh...that it doesn't show everything in Airdroid like it does in Hangouts...
