@Dashrender said in GPO - Install software based on User - Without user involvement:

Many policies can't be applied to users and have to be applied to the computer. that said you might be able to set the Item level targeting to limit it to specific users.

      This is your problem.

If you want to deploy the software based on user, you need to deploy it under User Configuration -> Policies -> Software Settings -> Software installation.

You tried to deploy it under Computer Configuration, and filtered by User, so it gets totally ignored.

This is only a problem if your computer is not part of this GPO pool - or you're trying to run things from both computer and user without loopback enabled.

I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15 (the 2017 model) as an alternative to our current MBPs. They are on the pricier side for Windows, but they are nice.

@wirestyle22 said in What Windows events are you monitoring in Zabbix?:

I'm slowly adding helpful triggers into Zabbix to monitor windows event logs. What are you guys monitoring currently and why? I only use it to monitor my servers and am trying to compile a list of things to add. Thanks

I mainly use it to monitor the standard stuff... Free Drive Space (trigger for < 10%), CPU usage (trigger is set for 10 minutes at > 75% CPU utilization), RAM (default trigger), and Network Utilization (no trigger)

This is essentially what I do as well.

It can do more, like automatically restart services and such, but I've never had a need for it to do that.

@Ambarishrh said in Mange CentOS server updates centrally:

I have few servers which is not managed using cPanel (gitlab, sonrqube, elastic etc) and would like to setup a central update system. I've provisioned all the servers via ansible and initial thought was to just setup a yum group and just get all servers updated.

Looking at spacewalk now and seems like it has better options including auditing an environment and push udpates, along with a decent web interface. Anyone used spacewalk before? http://spacewalk.redhat.com/

If you are using a newer version of CentOS you should be looking at the Foreman which is the current upstream project for Satellite 6. It is highly integrated with puppet but they do have plugins for Ansible and other configuration managers.

Spacewalk was the upstream for Satellite 5.

Why? Seems like a FreeNAS for Debian. Just use Debian as a server at that point.

Could be a great storage product, but it's a "never use" category of products.

There is a blacklist that all CA's have on high dollar domain names to prevent major fraud. LE cannot issue for something.microsoft.com or something.bestbuy.com for example.

But the sub domain names used in these PayPal examples are all outside of that. They are all on valid (ish) TLD.

usually aliasing is used to assign different roles to your mail box. as instance , when we send invoices to customers we do it from our account mail but it is aliased "invoices" this allows us to better track things.

The Synology email server does look like it is moderately nice. If you have a good service, like The Email Laundry, handling your external connections, running your email server internally isn't so bad. I have no experience with the Synology for email handling, but it looks like it might work just fine.

Templates are used for the most generic of tasks.

Like how to setup Exchange emails on an iPhone. A personalised top and tail and then step by step instructions throughout.

Anything not 100% repeatable is custom.

I documented in another post so that we can find the actual answer files. I had to pull them out of the original script and check a bit to make sure that they do what we are looking for. Now to work on integrating them into Salt so that an install can be properly automated in that manner.

CloudWays ? They literally let you choose Vultr as the host and I'm actually testing them right now.

How is the testing coming along?

Looks really nice. Not sure that it meets our needs well, though. It covers the pieces that we can handle easily but doesn't address the annoying pieces. Looks like a good product though.
