With cocaine, they don't really give it to you. They pretend to sell it. And cocaine hurts no one. There is no victim. This is the government actually causing harm to children.

But the comparison would be the FDA/ATF/Drug Enforcement seizing drugs at the border, and then turning around and selling it themselves.

It's the act of seizure and not destroying / removing access that has me upset.

This is what the CIA did in the 80's. They literally seized drugs from Mexican and Central American cartels and then sold it in US inner cities lower then what their competitors could. It funded a lot of the operations that the government couldn't/wouldn't fund.

There is speculation that the current opiate epidemic may be the result of the same type of program.

SkyKick backing up the data on 365 servers and a backup is taken off the desktop on a few machines, so there is another layer of backup.

why would anyone need to be up so late except for in the most urgent of issues is insane to me.

That's the problem you have. Defining "urgent". Logging activity gives you a sense of the quantity of work carried out after hours, but not the quality.

An example we might have: our guys are working on a multi-million dollar deal and the client e-mails them from New York in the late afternoon. The client doesn't care that it is midnight where we are in the UK, he expects an immediate answer. That one e-mail is more important than the thousand e-mails we received during the day. In financial terms, it could represent 20% of our revenue. So 0.0001% of IT activity represent 20% of revenue.

You can't analyse that. You can only trust that if your guys say they need 24/7/365 access, they do.

And that is why I'm trying quantify who and when people are working while not in the office.

Because as @Breffni-Potter said (and is true) the system will have to come down at some point, it might as well be planned, rather than unplanned.

@BBigford If we are talking about Office 365 Journaling is outdated while Litigation Hold and Compliance is the way to go. YOu can also still have a Mailbox Archive for each mailbox, but litigation hold will make it that any changes are not deleted from the mailbox.

@JaredBusch They pay for a dedicated static IP from Comcast. What would you call it if not a static IP?

      A fixed IP.

It is of course possible that Comcast is using a a true static IP assignment. But it is unlikely.

If it was a true static, then your comcast modem will have another public WAN IP and the /30 you have is routed behind that.

Good thought. It did still fail from both soft phones.

Deleteing extension and recreated as CHAN_SIP, still fails.

I get nothing related to the registration attempt in that phone.

Now working from a different phone. I must not have CHAN_SIP allowed through responsive firewall. But this site is "Local" using the updated firewall terminology and the responsive firewall is enabled for CHAN_SIP.

Change to trusted. And then make sure the IP is not already in the blacklist

Though its not the correct config I had it in trusted from the other week when I messing around.

I know I am missing some setting on my installation because the asterisk log isnt even showing the attempt to connect.

In the firewall I have responsive firewall enabled but also SIP (chan_sip_ set to local). Its a default installation so its shows port 5160 UDP for chan_sip, configured the phone the same port 5160.

SO yeah either ht efirewall or some other network if Asterisk is not seeing it.

Well... plug-in downloaded source, compiled, installed and activated.
In "Setting/Plugins" I can see now the "backup-reports" and "transport-email" plugins.
I made some simple test with "Backup Jobs" and all seems ok.

      Thanks guys.

@DustinB3403 I've been thinking about investing more time in using CentOS as a premise-based server. I am not whether there are more opportunities for sysadmin or for app development, which has been my more recent role. Managing the actual LOB apps used and customizing, doing reports.

      Both, really.

And look at NethServer and Zentyal, they use CentOS as a base but make a lot of the functions easy for SMBs. Going after the SBS concept. I prefer to break things up, but understand why people like this all in one servers.

Zentyal is Ubuntu. ClearOS was the other CentOS based system.

Justification: "This course prepares the user for the Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator (LFCS) exam, which is also a required component of the MCSA: Linux on Azure Certification."

I saw that, but this is still unusual because what they are teaching you in this course directly conflicts with roles and services that are generally provided by Windows Server

      0_1490804272513_upload-7844df2f-c2b4-4c45-82ae-20174b4adb89

Would you feel weird if VMware, KVM or Xen taught this material?

I would find it weird if VMware showed you how to build a vm environment using Xen. Because they are direct competitors.

Define competitor? Hyper-V and Azure are both products, for which a primary purpose is to host Linux. So yes, Linux might seem to you like a competitor to Windows. But Linux is not a competitor with Hyper-V or Azure and is actually a part of Azure.

So this isn't about VMware and Xen, it's about Vmware and Linux. Or Amazon and Linux. Or IBM and Linux. Microsoft has more roles that just making Windows, and most analysts agree that Azure is far more important for them than Windows is.

Moving on, how about LAPS (Local Administrator Password Solution)?
      https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46899

I have to confess my attitude towards local admin accounts has been lax at best, and I need to change. I don't know whether to implement LAPS or just store local admin account passwords in Keepass or similar (or even Excel).

We set-up all computers with the same local admin account and secure password e.g. LOCADMIN - ImSecure!12
Only the IT Team know this and it isn't written down anywhere.

Virginia State agency goes beyond the 'LOCADMIN - ImSecure!12' in that they change ALL Admin creds every 30 days.... what a pain

:-S -- I hope they have a way to automate that!

Like a printer that prints PostIt Notes with the new password and a robot that goes around sticking them to everyone's monitors?

Well crap... You just stole my idea.

If it wasn't for wanting to learn enterprise hardware, an Intel NUC is great, too. But there is big value to knowing server hardware. I've blown minds in an interview when I had the same enterprise gear at home that a Wall St. firm was deploying every day. I was literally the only person they had, in interviews OR on staff, that had ever even touched the gear before... and it was sitting in my basement. Having hands on with enterprise gear at home really is important, even if it seems like a silly thing.
