Yes the at sign signifies a group of packages rather than a single one.

So what would happen if you didn't use @ ? Would only part of the package be installed and the environment unusable?

You'd fail as there is no package by the name that you are specifying.

It hadn't failed for me though, it only listed about 12 things at around 35MB. When I added the @, it jumped up to about 180MB. I didn't run it though as I think I had in the past and it didn't include everything needed.

Safe mode should not affect disk drivers. If it did it could not attempt safe mode at all.

Can't - the not so silent, silent partner refuses to allow them to use a cloud backup service.

No problem, just explain that it's not cloud at all, just hosted.

the problem is - someone else is managing it - at least that what I think the problem is.. I get it entirely 3rd hand.

      Hmmmm..... aren't YOU someone else?

lol funny how that works, right?

Hyper-V Server 2016 hosts (among others, but leaving those out of this).

why? As it is a new deploymnet I was going the hyper-v 2016 route... still not ready for prime time? If so, I've to double check 2012 r2 features as I have a lot of linux VMs.

What he meant was other hypervisors than Hyper-V and leaving those out of this discussion.

With all that said, you're load is extremely small, but I would still split up as per best practice and future proofing, and dish out ram and vcpus appropriately for your needs.

I would never waste the time configuring something so tiny like that. It probably does not even have full recovery mode enabled anyway.

So I also realized that if you have even a small number of records, a dictionary will become super long. So you can compact the dictionary like this:

      records: ns1: {forward: 10.1.30.11, type: A, last: 11, rev: 30.1.10.in-addr.arpa.} ansible: {forward: 10.1.30.5, type: A, last: 5, rev: 30.1.10.in-addr.arpa.}

So while the other way may be easier to read, this saves a TON of space.

No, and my understanding is that there isn't any licensing that allows for that, although I've not investigated too much. Because you upload your own copy and are not using SPLA it might be viable. You'll need VDI licensing, obviously, so that's a pain. But if you have a VDI licensing system in place, it might be doable.

Vultr does not officially support Windows Server 2016 yet, so you might run into a hardware issue.

The main thing to consider is security and availability. Both solutions can provide them effectively if done properly.

Security is a standard no matter what, but availability is determined by usage. If nobody uses the VPN, it will be respectively easy to maintain It's availability. You will know the requirements of that aspect better than us.

Lots of way to provide availability, and even high availability if needed.

Also lots of things to consider to make sure it's as secure as you are able to.

@Mike-Davis said in switch and NIC teaming in Hyper-v:

Good points. Now that I think about it, in this case it's pointless since they have a 1GB uplink to the main switch. Since all ports go in to one switch and there is only one 1GB uplink nothing is gained in terms or redundancy or bandwidth.

You always gain redundancy you can have 3 links fail.

btw I add this line to the cfg files, network.dhcp_host_name = 5117, specifically so I can open a browser on network and simply go to http://5117.domain.local or whatever their AD domain is to check a phone.

      Saves so much time.

If that's all that needs to be done on the computer, what OS training is needed?

You sir, obviously have better users than I do, if you can ask that question.

Most problems with computer use stems from users fear of breaking things, at least in my experience. When I get new user, I always inform him/her there's nothing they can do to the computer, short of hitting it with baseball bat, that I cannot fix. It only gets easier from there.

Then they download ransomware and prove you wrong.

Wipe the PC and/or server and restore backups.

That's failure recovery. I'd prefer to avoid failure when the option exists.

Yeah. If the old way is working, that should keep working. However, certbot is easier to use.

When my system came up for renew after certbot was out, I installed certbot and renewed that way. everything is in the same pace. nothing had to be changed in the config files.

sudo yum install python-certbot-apache sudo certbot --apache

Accept defaults in certbot, and I forget the update options off the top of my head.

Just FYI for anyone finding this thread. The above does not work because there is not a vhost file.

      Call certbot like this.

certbot --apache --email [email protected] --domain nexcloud.domain.com --agree-tos --non-interactive
