Is this what you're talking about? Running VMWare workstation when your computer turns on (before you login)

      https://www.howtogeek.com/228467/how-to-make-a-program-run-at-startup-on-any-computer/

Or do you want it to load certain VM's when you power on before you login?

      https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2005585

      AutoStart
You can use the new AutoStart feature to configure shared virtual machines to start with the host system. You can also configure AutoStart for shared virtual machines on remote hosts running Workstation and ESX 4.x and later. To access the AutoStart feature:

      Right-click Shared VMs/Server Name/IP Address.
      Select Manage AutoStart VMs.
To setup/configure delay between auto startup of multiple shared virtual machines:
      Right-click Shared VMs/Server Name/IP Address.
      Select Manage AutoStart VMs.
Select the virtual machines that you want to auto start.
Set the delay that you want for the virtual machine in the Delay between starting each virtual machine (in seconds) option available at the bottom of the window.
Click OK to save the settings.

Thanks! Somehow the workstation server won't run on port 443. I have to change it to 442.
Then I follow your instruction and it seems to be working.

Check for Skype. That one tends to grab 443 and 80 on its own.

@scottalanmiller Right, it makes perfect sense in the case of network changes.

@Carnival-Boy said in Windows 10 Search:

Also note that the search only displays a small list of results. It doesn't display everything. So, for example, if you had six apps with "Game" in the title, it might only display three of them. You can display more by filtering on Apps in your search settings.

That makes sense. In this case, one displayed one and the other nothing, however. Not a long list 🙂

There would have to be. Unless it was just wide open.

That's was I was trying to determine.

@Reid-Cooper said in Oracle Database and schemas...please help!:

In the past I used to know a handful of active DBAs. Today I'm not sure that I know any. I have the impression that the field has been shrinking. Do many databases really require that much care and feeding any longer? We can just throw CPU, RAM and IOPS at them or pass a query problem on to the developers. DBAs backing up, tuning and monitoring databases seems like a dieing art.

I just saw a local company advertising for a Senior Sys Admin where they wanted Oracle DBA experience for. I kind of want to try to grab an interview, could be interesting conversations. Plus I know a guy that works there, who I'd enjoy working with. The more I talk about it the more I'm going to contact him tonight.

Yes the at sign signifies a group of packages rather than a single one.

So what would happen if you didn't use @ ? Would only part of the package be installed and the environment unusable?

You'd fail as there is no package by the name that you are specifying.

It hadn't failed for me though, it only listed about 12 things at around 35MB. When I added the @, it jumped up to about 180MB. I didn't run it though as I think I had in the past and it didn't include everything needed.

Safe mode should not affect disk drivers. If it did it could not attempt safe mode at all.

Can't - the not so silent, silent partner refuses to allow them to use a cloud backup service.

No problem, just explain that it's not cloud at all, just hosted.

the problem is - someone else is managing it - at least that what I think the problem is.. I get it entirely 3rd hand.

      Hmmmm..... aren't YOU someone else?

lol funny how that works, right?

Hyper-V Server 2016 hosts (among others, but leaving those out of this).

why? As it is a new deploymnet I was going the hyper-v 2016 route... still not ready for prime time? If so, I've to double check 2012 r2 features as I have a lot of linux VMs.

What he meant was other hypervisors than Hyper-V and leaving those out of this discussion.

With all that said, you're load is extremely small, but I would still split up as per best practice and future proofing, and dish out ram and vcpus appropriately for your needs.

I would never waste the time configuring something so tiny like that. It probably does not even have full recovery mode enabled anyway.
