And yet another way to think of it...

A stateful system is focused, at least partially, on saving to and retrieving from storage. It is a "data at rest" system.

A stateless system is focused, essentially entirely, on data "in flight". Processing of data moving from one point to another.

@Emad-R said in Does Container tech makes backups and RAID obsolete:

      Hi,

Do containers and management platform for containers, makes all the hard work of making the server resilient obsolete like RAID and backups, however we will assume that the DB are hosted outside of this scope like on Amazon services.

If you have a server running 500 containers, would it be easier for automation to spin up another 500 containers on new hardware (while dealing with whatever issues are caused by 500 containers being down) or easier to have RAID and simply swap a disk and continue on?

Actually for "easier", the container spinups can be automated, but the drive swap requires a human. The real effort is in acquiring another server to spin them up on. One approach is ignoring that an entire replacement server is needed.

Having a full server die and take all of its workloads with it has all the same impact with containers as with anything else. Containers are really just "really heavy threads", nothing more.

Going down this road of discovery myself. Hoping the "Passwords" app has been improved.
      Initially it looks promising.

This same issue is happening today once again, VPN is connecting properly but I can't properly reach anything properly on the local lan or the internet.

You should just buy a new edge router to exclude any hardware issues.

Valid option. The cost is minimal compared to the time you are spending.

I preferred to use Visual Studio Code instead.

It's just a steam and video machine. The one-liner quick installs with chocolatey as he likely does is best in that case. No need to get fancy.

Take a look at what the system comes with. From a quick check, I'm almost certain both CentOS and Fedora ship with rsyslog, which would lead me to believe that the Pi would have that or something very similar. If not, rsyslog does at least have an ARM package.

      Pi runs Debian.

Yeah, I don't have any debian-based systems I can check right now, but I know it still has the mechanism built-in. Just might not be rsyslog.

The Java exception, from what I recall, is due to your settings in the server file, limiting the ram. Change the server file to allocate double or triple the ram already configured.

MC with mods takes a lot of RAM.

Only when you have more than one person playing. The more people in the world, the memory requirements multiply.

The mods need RAM to load into Java, even before users are logged in the server needs to be able to start up. This is no different than with any OS + whatever you might want to do with it.

The environment requires X at minimum.

Sure if you give the server minimum requirements you'll notice...

@fuznutz04 no he's saying you can only assign it in VM or via CLI. You still create your team.

I think he is actually saying, you can create the NIC team in Cockpit. (You can, I did it already), but you then just assign that team, via the VM Guest settings. ...I think.

For what's it's worth, that is what I said.

No. Why would you want that anyway? You have the terminal already. If you really need the GUI, drop a quick allow in the firewall rules for your current public IP.

I like to have access to the GUI, I thought there was some "backdoor" way through UNMS.
The firewall rule is good enough, thanks.

It provides access to the CLI, but not to the GUI. If you want GUI access in that way, the trick is to make a remote proxy (a la Nginx) and do it that way, no need for UNMS.

Mine home is a tale of 2 worlds. Personal stuff is all games, or things that are automatically backed up to a couple providers. IE: Pictures and videos all go to both Google Photos and Amazon Photos.

My home lab stuff all goes to Wasabi, but I haven't gotten all the kinks worked out with the setup yet. I think it will work just fine, once I make some time to troubleshoot the thing.

So thanks to @MontesVitalPBX we now know that the commercial addons cost 25% of purchase price for yearly maintenance.

This will let us begin to calculate the real costs of using VitalPBX.

Wow, that's not bad at all. So much cheaper than I would assume most people assume and way cheaper than I was expecting. That should be on the site because that's really good info!

Well it will be. See the other thread.

It is a fair price. It is totally acceptable. My objection was always because it was hidden.

Been chilling all weekend so not even close to caught up yet 🙂
