Well.... after reading your comments... I will give iPhone another chance (also because Oneplus 3T is 3 weeks away). I believe Apple has 14 days refund policy or sometime so it doesn't hurt my wallet that much.

If you have the $$$ go with the highest amount of memory you can afford.

I switched from 16GB to 128GB. SO much better!!

Totally agree!! I went all the way to 256GB. No more worrying about deleting songs, or pictures.

@coliver said in Android/iOS Antivirus Questions:

I'm not convinced it's necessary. Both iOS and Android have sandboxing features that prevent malicious code from running. Android, of course, lets the user run it anyway if they give that app permission. I think iOS has something similar but they have a pretty decent app store that prevents that type of thing, unlike Google.

I am an Android guy by the way.

I'm not convinced it's necessary either, but I believe I was infected and now I'm all paranoid.

One security research firm (I don't remember the name I'll have to look) went through the Google App store and downloaded as much malicious stuff as possible. They found that unless the application is given permission, which means a user has to allow it, then it really can't do anything on the system. If the user allows it then, obviously, the malicious code was able to execute and do it's thing.

That's exactly what creeps me out about Android - why does everything need permissions to stuff you wouldn't expect it to use. I fear the answer is "to slurp your data". Which is garbage. However the app won't run without it.

Example: "Samsung Briefing" which is a news aggregator - asks for permission to save to disk, phone, etc etc

The newest version of Android took a cue from iOS and now lets you be more judicial with app permissions. Haven't been able to play with it yet.

in what way? I don't see a way to prevent, for example, Skype from using my camera but allowing it access to the network and microphone.

Do you have Nougat? I could have sworn that was one of the selling points. Where you give permissions like that on an as needed basis. So you could very well prevent skype from accessing the camera but allow it to access the microphone. It may not work as expected but...

@Dashrender said in Update your iOS devices. This flaw is a doozy.:

      What is your driving feature(s)?

      Not what I have 😛

I want Windows 10 Mobile to be stable, supported, and have a thriving app ecosystem with all the major apps. And a pony.

Now that that is out of the way, I like the consistency of iOS, but I don't like iOS. iOS X is light years better from a UX perspective imo than iOS 9 was, but there are still niggling little things that annoy me. And Apple irritates me on so many levels, and that irritation is only exacerbated by managing a network that is 95% Mac.

I don't know Android well enough to know what I want there, but I dislike what Samsung has done with their bloat ware. I was looking at Nexus for my WP replacement, but Alphabet chose to kill that in favor of a flagship that is more aimed at a consumer, than creating a clean experience (I'm guessing, not having used a Pixel).

OnePlus 3 looks promising. If I had to choose today it would probably be one of these.

Recent updates to the iOS system have made a number of changes. One of which is you don't swipe down to turn off Suggested words when using the keyboard.

How to turn off the QuickType keyboard on your iPhone or iPad

Launch any app and pull up the keyboard. Tap and hold on the emoji icon in the bottom left of the keyboard. ... Swipe upwards and hover your finger over the Predictive toggle and release your finger. To enable QuickType again, just follow the same three steps.os

I was not under the impression the swiping down on the handle was disabling it. Only hiding it.

His comment is about the fact that Super Mario (a game from how long ago now?) is just now available on a different platform.

The platform change is a big move, but come out with a new game if you're going to do it. Make a bigger splash of it.

You do not get much bigger than Super Mario, nor the Apple iPhone event.

Also this was Nintendo. I seriously cannot compute how you guys do not understand how big this is that Shigeru Miyamoto got on Apple's stage to do this.

Didn't realize this was a fan boy thread. I'll show myself out.

Yeah, neither Nintendo nor Apple make me hard, so I give this announcement a big "who cares?"

I'm right there with you. Nintendo hasn't done much in the past 10-15 years for me to get excited about. This is cool because it means we may see some games like Metroid and Pikman on other platforms. Although we generally already have those games from different developers on the PC.

10-15.... more like ever. They are a huge player, but their IP is garbage. Mario... sucks. Zelda...OMG it's awful. Mother was great, but Nintendo hates anyone who likes it. Starfox, lol.

I've saw this before. Open up Credential Manager and delete anything related to Office. Don't just edit and verify, actually delete it. When you sign in again, it'll store a new copy. Happens sometimes with password changes or a bad sync between password changes.

Can find it in Control Panel or just search for it.

Hence why Apple products are working OK... They don't have Credential Manager. Same thing happens with Keychain on Apple PCs sometimes. But the mobile devices obviously don't have Keychain.

Apple products are NOT working okay, they are half working.

@gjacobse said in iOS Contact recovery from iTunes Backup:

Well this is a fun one. User was to receive new phone, so planning ahead, she called in to discuss getting her contacts backed up. She had an iPhone 5c, but didn't have it sync to the iCloud - she didn't want to do so since it was her iCloud account, but an Office phone.

Got the 5c connected to iTunes and backed up. As near as I know anyway, everything succeeded normally.

This week she has her new 6s and plugged it in. Back up seemed to restore correctly, but she has no contacts.

I fully expect that the version difference is causing this, but would expect that her contacts are in the back up. Just how to retrieve them?

Are you sure the contacts were on the phone and not from something like an exchange account?

I've never had an iTunes based backup/restore fail to do that.

There is no difference in "version" because iOS is iOS no matter which device it is on. At worst you may be iOS 8 versus iOS 9?

iOS is iOS - Well I was going to say no.. but @art_of_shred and I managed to figure it out. I am using my phone as a comparison... I have been using the OWA application, but she mentioned using the regular MAIL app. So I went to set it up, and wasn't seeing the same thing @art_of_shred was. Found out what the deal was and now it 'matches'.

But that doesn't fully answer the issue here,.. getting her contacts. on to the next thought.

So adding the exchange account worked?

I do both just because I'm paranoid. My password is only 15 characters, but with the key file I think it helps. That way even if someone gets my database they can hammer the database with passwords all they want but it won't matter.

Seriously, with the other two operating systems, the app wraps it up nicely. So. Never checked if AT&T made a version for WP.

The app has no ability to lock down on usage. that is a monthly "add on" youhave to pay for with AT&T and TMO

now they are just syphoning money - this should be a free add-on. But that's just my opinion.

As a father of two children that will have phones, I agree.
