@scottalanmiller Ah, yes. That would be a more efficient way of doing it. I was too excited from finally gaining some understanding of mount point concepts, I didn't think though the best way to move the data. πŸ™‚

@scottalanmiller Isn't that part of why we all virtualize so we don't have deal with raw?

You can still snapshot raw. Raw can be an image file or a volume or a full disk. Raw doesn't mean not virtualized.

RAWs biggest limitation is you can't storage vmotion it. You can vmotion the pointer but if you are retiring a SAN or something you will be doing it manually.

Ya I'm using KVM so I can either move the raw file or the volume to wherever I need it. It's really simple with qemu and lvm.

Programming is different. You need a high level of abstract thinking and - at least that's my opinion - you must be creative. @scottalanmiller said something very true, programming is like paining or playing an instrument. There is some, hell, how to say... There's a hidden picture deep behind tens or hundreds of thousands of lines, something you can actually feel at times. Sounds stupid, I know πŸ˜‰

IT in terms of administration, deployment and similar tasks is also a big thing, where analyitical and problem solving skills are required, but it's not like (real) programming. Remember: Programming != ("Coding" || Webdesign || Printers) πŸ˜›

Scott Hanselman had a podcast a few weeks ago about code smells. I think that is the feel you are referring too.

YEs, that is it. Standard term "smells" believe it or not.

@dafyre said in Hyper-V dynamic memory - reason not to use?:

I've only heard that it's a bad idea to use on things like SQL Servers and such. I see no reason not to enable it for anything you expect to be constantly fine tuning the memory usage.

I have it enabled on my VDI VMs here. I'd probably enable it on file servers, and IIS servers. Probably not on DCs though.

      Just my 2c worth.

SQL will eat up as much as you give it so it's a bad idea.

I have an HP switch with an LC SX fiber GBIC.

Do you know, or think - please indicate - if that will work when connected to a ES‑48‑500W with a 10GTeck SFP SX GBIC?

Are you asking if the SFPs will work in the switch or if the SFPs will talk to each other? if you asking if they will talk to each other yes, It's still ethernet. As long as you are using the same type of fiber SFPs (or ones that will take SMF and MMF) and the correct speed and micron then they will work, that is unless you try something stupid like using a SMF run a few feet apart you will burn out the SFP.

But it is standards based and it is still just ethernet, the one side doesn't care what brand is on the other. It's the same as plunging a CAT5 Ethernet cable into dissimilar brands of switches.

I was under the impression that Mac Mail integrated nicely with Exchange (including Contacts & calendards, etc)?

      Has this been tested?

It does but it uses active sync only just like mobile devices so some of the features like sharing, public folders etc will be limited. It needs additional connections for that. Heck I think on Macs the GAL isn't even supported.

It's been a few years since I've touched a Mac on Exchange, but ours worked well with it, and Calendar sharing as well. (We didn't use public folders or anything).

In Apple Mail? He said no Outlook App

      Apple Mail != Outlook.

@JaredBusch actually you can clone a USB from a working xs install, use the clone to boot, and just go.

No need to repoint to the storage or make any changes.

JB's point I think is that if you have an old clone, the metadata might no longer be valid.

      epic eyeroll

      My point remains the same.

Our colocation has raised floors, fully redundant diesel generators, and 50k gallons of fuel onsite. The building is designed to withstand some crazy high winds (can't remember the exact rating, but we went 'wow'). Plus fully redundant internet connections with failover set up (assuming the 'net is still up during a bad storm or tornado).

Don't get me wrong, bulldozing and rebuilding for the sake of bulldozing and rebuilding is wasteful, even if it is good for the economy at large.

My question begins with - why did they all leave? Why is the new location so much better?

In the case of Omaha, when a shop leaves one mall for another mall, it's because the new mall is in a much more affluent neighborhood, i.e. the hope for more revenue. It's likely that the location will wither and die, and never be rebuilt.

We rarely see something where businesses move out, the building is razed, something new in its place with new tenants. Typically if this happens, it happens because the area has become more prosperous and a new building will attract more customers, so out with the old and in with the new to make even more money.

So as was previously mentioned, those dead malls (we have two of them). One turned into office space. The second one is mostly empty and has been for around 10 years now. This mostly empty mall could be turned into apartments.

How about making the LM box auto logon upon reboot. This will ensure desktop:0 is always running, then when you X2Go into it, you'll be a secondary connection, and your should should come from your desired location.

      I suppose one could.

For the now, I'm using the dying monitor to sign in with. it'll work long enough to sign in before the video goes out on it.

I had to try and find a key for QuickBooks here, what a nightmare. Didn't have the login for their online site, and getting a confirm sent by phone was impossible due to them only being able to send text message to the registered phone on the account. Or an automated call. the phone is an ip phone that cant get texts and is answered by an attendant, so neither of those worked.
So I had to call them. Or it, rather. Had some very nice and unhelpful computer voice tell me to talk to it like a normal person. Not happening. Hitting 0 doesn't work. Infuriated, I hung up, and proceeded to search through years of old email to find the key. Eventually found the key in an old file folder in a file cabinet.
Really wish we could get away from it.
