It looks like it is supported, but I haven't tested it yet:

      https://docs.saltstack.com/en/latest/ref/states/all/salt.states.pkg.html#salt.states.pkg.group_installed

      That's cool.

OK, to the end to my question seems to be - stick with status quo.

i.e. Dell Optiplex or HP Elite series.

Of course a few other names were tossed around, but the general consensus wasn't some unheard of (by me) brand or whiteboxing, etc.

      +1 for optiplex

Unless there price is noticeably less than HP's, I'm not likely to switch. HP Elite desktops have been great for me. Small form factor i5 with 8 GB RAM run around $800.

Just from reading I would say he's using Quad9 as upstream DNS for his PiHole (which is used by clients)

I know that. I mean, what is the service Quad9 doing.

It's another "privacy" friendly DNS driven by IBM, Packet Clearing House (PCH) and Global Cyber Alliance (GCA). Placed as an alternative to Google's DNS

"Privacy friendly" is what we are worried about. It's from the US gov't so we really don't trust it.

I'm sure you've noticed the quotes around "privacy".

      Always wait these out.

The only time I wouldn’t is if I have a snapshot pre update that failed and just revert to it.

Also worth noting, there are some problematic switches at each site. Again, because the VAR was clearly trying to add complexity to up the support bill, and I'm having them put in simple, low cost, unmanaged Netgears to make this really simple and reliable.

I detest NetGear switches. They generally work, but everytime I try to use one for something even half specific, they puke.

Sites this small can use the EdgeSwitch 8
      https://www.ubnt.com/edgemax/edgeswitch-8-150w/

And it will report into UNMS along with the routers.

Plus it's actually a switch, hardware- and software-wise. Not a breadbox which jumps over the table because you "accidentally" attached a cable to it. (yeah, I know, some NetGears also feature a metal case but it's not the same).

We use email signing and encryption. Signing is on by default, and users encrypt emails that have sensitive information.

This is done via S/MIME cert using RSA 4096-bit encryption, and email clients that support digital signatures and encryption, such as Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.

It seemed like someone on the VMware forums had a similar issue, yet it wasn't resolved. https://communities.vmware.com/thread/574921 I can just suggest the most common solution of "reconfigure it and see if that helps".

The register now button in the hero image is redirecting properly to https://sodium.waxquixotic.com/companyCreation, so new accounts can indeed register.
      alt text

It took my way too long to find that button when I looked this morning.

@coliver I like the look of the new changes in the last couple days. Register is super clear and works on Firefox as well now it looks like. After you've already registered though, where are you supposed to login? The previous had both registration and login; I can only find registration now. Searched for SodiumSuite login via search engine, dug through the site, tried on different browsers (thinking a web part wasn't loading again).

      Just mentioned this to @Dominica
      She said... "whoops"

Haha no worries. That makes sense why I couldn't find it then.

@brandon220 said in Looking for recommendations on the best UTM Firewalls for SMB's...:

I tend to use Edgerouters everywhere I can. That being said - I have 2 Sophos UTMs because of the web filtering mainly. I realize you can put them in transparent mode behind another router but it seems pointless when it can do everything. The country blocking is another feature that works really well. If I needed just a firewall I would never consider them.

pfBlocker / pfBlockNG on pfSense is great. You'll have a lot fewer kids knocking if you lock out all but the few required countries where you have employees etc. Doesn't make sense for a website maybe, but works great for VPNs for example. Only downside, as with every on-site firewall, is that the traffic already went over your wire, but it helps anyway.

      @scottalanmiller
      Thanks.
I've started using Google drive, One Drive, Drop box for saving files and spreadsheets. However I'm having issues with both excel spreadsheet files and MS Access files. Firstly when I open and edit Excel files, Google, one drive, drop box, they all seem to save additional copies every time. Why is this? How can I get it to simply over-write the file I'm working on so there's only one document each time?
Also once I upload an MS Access file, each time I click on it, it saves a copy on my hard drive. Why is this and how can I get around it?

Access is not meant to be used like that. And generally, it is a product to absolutely avoid. If you really want to use Access, you need some serious infrastructure to make it actually work properly and the cost is ridiculous.

Like every user that needs to use it needs Access licenses bought for them. And you need to run a SQL Server instance... there is no proper way to use Access over the internet without connecting it to a Sharepoint server to host the web interface.

Without a Sharepoint and SQL Server infrastructure, you have to rule out Access.

As the others have asked.... Outlook can use anything. It is often associated with Exchange, but there is no specific connection. Zimbra, GoDaddy, anything could be the email that Outlook is showing you. And your question is about the email server, not Outlook. So knowing that someone has connected with Outlook doesn't give us any starting point.

@texkonc said in Import New-PublicFolder -Name in bulk:

Long story short, the previous guy left no documentation. I did find his template file however. Now I just the EMC shell syntax.
We have public folder data to add.
For example I have 95 lines of this just for this one year in a CSV.
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910002 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910007 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910008 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910009 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910010 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910011 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910012 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910013 -Path \Projects\1991
      New-PublicFolder -Name 910014 -Path \Projects\1991

Looking at this, it doesn't show how I could use a CSV instead of manually typing it in.
      https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691104(v=exchg.150).aspx

I have 8 years to add like this. So I know he did it, I just have no idea what syntax he used to have Exchange shell grab from the CSV.

      $myData=import-csv -Path "C:\Path\to\my\file.csv" foreach ($line in $myData) { New-PublicFolder -Name $line.NewFolderName -Path "\Projects\$($line.projectYear)" }

In the above examplethe CSV file would have a column named "NewFolderName" and another column named Project Year

(It can have other info, it only gets used if you need it)

Solution found, human thinking error. Because I was trying to make a bash script take the last octet of an IP address and use it in a config file for naming I was using leading zeros where I shouldn't be. Most modern OS's assume octal is being used when leading zero's are inserted into a number, octal is 0-7 so that is why 8 and 9's weren't working. Also when I did ping 10.0.1.077 the response came back from 10.0.1.63 because 77 in octal equals 63 in decimal. Lesson learned for me trying to overcomplicate things.
