Inserted a new line of code at line 82 & 87 to read as follows:

      icacls \\<server>\d$\Users\$un\* /grant $un:F /inheritance:e /T

This line grants the new employee full access to their network folder and subfolders and items.

      That's on my to-do list.

Legal is really all about "common sense" and following good practices. Think of it as having to defend your decisions logically, rather than following a specific guideline or rulebook.

I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15 (the 2017 model) as an alternative to our current MBPs. They are on the pricier side for Windows, but they are nice.

I get bored after 1 or so years at any given place. Pretty much at that point where I am now, so am looking. Gets pretty boring once everything is in place, up to date, patches, and running smoothly etc...

Same here, one year at Dell was tough. All of the challenge was done after five months. And even five months was only because I did three different jobs during that window:

One week of proof of concept engineering Four weeks of process engineering Four months of Windows Administration

I went on for another year after that... but that's why the first five months were okay. And the first five weeks were at one site, the next year was three different locations per week, every week, no repeats. So I was traveling constantly and that kept things interesting for a little while.

I have a Samsung TV, but refuse to leave it connected to the internet because Samsung specifically outsouces the audio recorded by the TV, etc. no thanks. I'll get updates if/when I need one to make something work, beyond that I use my Roku and Amazon TV.

We found a "Computers 2 Kids" charity that we donate all PCs, servers, etc to... that are at least in good enough condition to work or get working with minimal effort. Ex: new hard drive or RAM needed.

It's local to us here in San Diego... but there may be something similar near you.

Really, the only thing I cannot recommend is a solid Windows email client, because Almost everyone uses Outlook or web based.

I know Scott hates Outlook, but me personally, It's the one I love.

I suppose I could use thunderbird, but why when I have access to Outlook.

I use it all the time. But I also have 5 Exchange accounts in it.

I would never tell someone to buy Outlook just to have a desktop email client though.

Agreed - I hope inside the next year to ditch Outlook on the desktop and move to strickly OWA. Most of my users will be able to get by with it with no issues.

      Awesome doggie!!

My littlest one if you notice, has a sweater on. He will not go outside to do his business without it. He shivers in the cold.

That's my daughter with my cousin's dog. This is the house that we are staying at right now. The dog's name is Bianca.

      Ahhh, I C.

My dogs' names left to right are Jersey, Zeus, and Pablo. Zeus keeps the other 2 in line. You can tell he is all business just by the look on his face. He's real good though. Dedicated to his mother like you wouldn't believe. She has a seizure 2 nights ago and I had to literally drag him off of her so I could tend to her.

Veeam is a great product, and it has saved my bacon numerous times. It has so many features people just don't realize even exist. And their support has always been stellar. Thanks for sharing.

We had an issue not long ago where one of our SQL databases would throw a backup error in Veeam and bomb the backup job. Support helped me figure out there was some corruption within the database that needed to be resolved first and even gave some guidance on how to go about clearing up the corruption. Without the help from their support we might have been further corrupted and had this cause us so much more heartache down the road.

@scottalanmiller said in Considering Ubiquiti Wireless:

Yes, they keep operating. The controller is just remote configuration, it's not the brains of the device. You dont even need a controller at all. It is just for initial setup.

@scottalanmiller said in Considering Ubiquiti Wireless:

Of course keeping a controller is recommended. Just saying it isn't necessary.

Yep, you don't NEED a controller after configuration, but I would leave one running. It will keep stats on the APs for you.
I don't use RADIUS currently, so I'm not sure if that would require a controller or not?

I also haven't read up on roaming. I know it works seamlessly, I just don't know if a controller is required for that to function or not.

The only thing you absolutely need to leave a controller running all the time for is if you want to present a landing page on a guest network. At least when I set ours up a year ago that's how it was.
