But who hires those contractors... you or Comcast.

Comcast always. You are not allowed to touch poles by law in almost every municipality. Those are OWNED by others. Why is this even a question?

I mentioned about that my friend was told that he had to hire his own contractor to run replacement cables from the pole to his house for power. It wasn't done by the power company.

Yep. It was actually a business. Zero feedback on ebay though.

No idea what they do: http://www.buzzfile.com/business/Jot-Ventures-LLC-918-312-1658

They left me bad feedback on ebay for canceling the item cause it seemed way too fishy. They'd probably try a buyer protection scam.

All comes down to if learning VMware specifically is important to you or if you just want good virtualization.

Wow. That's not totally surprising but is to some degree. I wonder...

Which FR controllers are commonly handled. Is it from the vendor or just an open source driver. If the latter is it just automating MD or is it completely rewritten RAID? Why would anyone do this??

We have mainly stuck with Windows 7 and the few 8.1 machines haven't needed .Net 3.5.
So we are yet to experience this.

Thanks for the heads up 🙂

Depends. I've never seen an enterprise shop with enterprise system admins that were not more expensive than the storage guys. Close, but systems is the top payer. I've known many $200K and higher systems people. No storage people at $200K. But lots over $150K.

Cost more but can do more. I'm not saying what my pay is, but my bonus is more than my whole salary at my previous employer.

Yup, system admins generally can do "nearly anything." Whereas storage admins generally can do only one thing. And if you change storage products you generally have to replace your storage team too.

@scottalanmiller What are you using for company email archiving? I no longer have a need for a solution that records up to 10 years, but always curious what others use.

We use all integrated with O365 these days.

      Check out Waterford Technologies.

That Norco might work, but looking at it, I'm curious what the usable dimensions are inside. The exterior depth shows 31.5" and the Dell Standard depth is 28 7/8. That's cutting it pretty
close. I haven't found a spec sheet or anyone talking about the interior dims yet.

This is a little damaged apparently, but might be the right idea.

Cool. A few months back, I stumbled across MobaXterm and snagged it when I had a few extra bucks. I'll keep my eyes on RoyalTS for sure, though.

Just checked MobaXterm and i really like it. My most favorite option as of now is the file explorer & shell on the same window. Helps me a lot if i need to edit some text files, copy files to and from the desktop etc at the same time while executing other commands.

Not crazy that it is not enforced. Lots of licensing depends on trust.

I meant crazy that a CCIE guy at a reseller would say that on record.

It's crazy that he gave that advice on record. Or at all.

It is actually pretty difficult comparatively to other systems. I have worked with more than a few and I am not a fan of the complexity there.

I am only saving documents and Picture stuff. So honestly for me there is no issue at all. I am very careful to keep things organized and am able to keep track of it all. I "lost" a document once when I first got the Mac and have been careful ever since.

This IS customer service and nothing else.

You have an odd idea of what's included in customer service. That is business management not customer service. If you are going to count that as customer service then literally every aspect of any business would be customer service.

All of the aspects that are service to the customer, yes.

I don't see how that is odd. If good service for customers isn't part of customer service, what is?

@JasonNM - If you don't go with NTG, if you engage another consultant, have them sign an agreement which prohibits them from reseller agreements or sales on your behalf, you'll need the right legal phrasing but for any prospective consultant, lay that out up front.

While I do completely agree with this in general, as it is how we run our company, just because someone is a reseller, should not rule them out. It should reduce they value of their input, but if you are getting competing information, they can still be a value.

Resellers, IMHO, have tons of value. But at different stages of the process. You shouldn't get the broad guidance, like system design, from the resellers. Not where they are in a process to influence design. But once you are down to system specifics or needing to compare two products of similar types getting resellers involved (as long as their is oversight to keep their sales people from bring misleading and causing problems) is very good. Resellers need to be part of a good IT supply chain, but not a replacement for the IT skills themselves.
