A 500 error usually means that your application pool isn't setup properly.

      Got an extended error output?

Nope. Found out the guys webconfig was all messed up. I fixed it. There a lot of stuff off in how this guy was doing things.

That would do it. The config file is what controls the pool. If it's misconfigured, it's gonna throw 500 errors.

When in doubt, always turn on the whole error message:

I blame a lot of this on regulations being stupid.

In 2000 I was hired by SBC to work for their new DSL support division called Advanced Solutions, Inc. (ASI). SBC had been mandatated by the FCC to create ASI as a separate entity as a condition of the Ameritech merger.

Part of making it a completely separate company also meant that ASI was legally not allowed to directly use SBC resources for anything. To get a CO tech to rewire a single circuit on a DSLAM was a multi hour process.

My recent UAP-AC-PRO acquisition was a bust. Atrocious throughput compared to its predecessor. I went through all the settings per best practices. There's quite a lengthy thread on the subject over at the UBNT forums. Pretty disappointing.

Ah, I would not have seen that issue, because I have only used the UAP-AC-LITE so far. That LITE doe snot (and is not advertised to get) 1300mbps.

Sounds like the clients just don't have MIMO or enough streams to saturate it.

      I'm testing with a 3x3 Thinkpad.

There was a period of time where a coward was downvoting all posts made by a specific member just because they wanted to be a buttmunch.
This downvoting business on this thread COULD be an attempt at humour but I doubt it.

Most likely a spiceworks memeber here who didn't like the joke.

Foxconn is Taiwanese for those wondering. They are famously the assemblers of the Apple iPhone. But on their own, Foxconn is one of the largest technology manufacturers out there.

Site does down all the time. The servers just aren't working well.

Anyway I filed a charge back and now they are harassing me with a credit collection agency and threatening to sue me if I don't give them the money back along with a $200 fee.

I used them a year ago and they weren't like this. I had them escalate the ticket via Chat and still nothing happened on it.

I do not use VS Code, but I have it installed to play with on Linux Mint. For me, Atom, which Code is based on, makes more sense and I use it all of the time. Atom does pretty much any language that you want and is older (so I was using it long before Code came about) and has gobs of resources. I come from a background of just using vi for everything, so Atom is a pretty big leap forward.

That they are advertising a partnership with VMware honestly worries me a lot. That's the same "first red flag" that we had with CloudatCost and why we knew something was wrong there right away. VMware is not cost effective for a cloud provider.

Yep.. Allowing you to have your own private ESXi cloud is one thing.. (rackspace and most will do this if you give them enough $$$)..

But running the whole backbone infustructure on vmware is stupid.

Right, there are good reasons to choose VMware in house, especially for a large enterprise. But Vmware for a commodity public cloud AND using SAN... it was quite obvious that they were trying to buy software rather than having to have even a single person who knew how these things worked.

This cloud is run using openstack - we have a partnership with VMWare for some of our enterprise clients etc, we use all sorts of things depending on what the client wants - everything isn't run off VMWare - but we do have a few large clients that demand it, so we offer it... eCloudFlex is a new solution, built in house using openstack etc, designed for Linux mainly...gives a console as standard, but you can connect pretty much anyway you want (putty etc too) - I just use it as it's handy though, it spins up a new instance in about 30 seconds, so can mess, break stuff, then delete and re-create etc without fear...

What hypervisor are you using? OpenStack can be any, it's just the management layer on top.

I've been told it runs on KVM - I've sent a link to the forum to one of the guys at work that's more knowledgeable on these things (and wants to join the community!)

Cool. KVM is where nearly everyone new goes these days. Xen and KVM are really the only ones that make sense. VMware is way too expensive and limited, Hyper-V even Microsoft won't use for cloud (their cloud runs on Azure, which while related to Hyper-V is not actually Hyper-V.)

Yeah, I've not got experience personally with either of those yet, but then that's never been a part of my job, and it's generally stuff I taught myself when I was bored in order to progress myself, not for work purposes etc 🙂

They are the only things that we use ourselves. About thirteen years on Xen and one on KVM.

Will have to check them out and get learning then! 😄

Prediction: 2017/18 will bring an Intel chip with 64+ lanes and this will not be an issue.

      I think so too.

I think Thunderbolt will be the best physical interface rather than the current PCIE form factors too. Mainly it allows the flexiablity like SATA with greater throughput. It would allow you to use cables (internal or external) and could plug into a blackplane once the layout of the drives are standarized. And could even allow dasiy chaining.

      eyeroll

Go design a kick ass widget and put a thunderbolt connector on it, then see what it costs to license.

Hopefuly Intel will ditch the licesning costs at some point.. No other interface is doing that. They are just killing it doing that.

No way, Intel doesn't work that way.

would that I had more than one upvote to give

Anyone else remember rambus memory? I still shudder at the thought.

Sure, but it's not going to be cheap!

The first one I found is $700. But that's a super high end board with dual 10GigE built in and able to handle 128GB of RAM from 2014. If you are doing high end video processing, a few hundred extra for your Mobo is going to be expected anyway. This would not add that much onto the overall system cost. Often people are dropping $3K on these machines already.

LOL - like I said - NOT Cheap!

Then how much is a switch, assuming you need one? The chassis will be rather expensive as well for those drives.

You could just directly plug in without a switch if needed.

Considering you'll need a dongle for the 10GBe and the mac's don't use a proper dock.... I don't see the down side to that. If anything it's smarter, fewer devices to die in the chain.

Yeah this is the closest thing to a dock http://www.landingzone.net/products/macbook-docks/

Dude I had no idea those were a thing... You just earned me serious brownie points with my Mac loving boss.

Your boss can buy me one as a gift 🙂 I still don't have one.

The purpose of RDX is to make a mechanism that is robust for being inserted and removed often, USB is a bit fragile there. And to make the actual drive more robust for transport. External USB drives are not good for bouncing around in an Iron Mountain truck.

Yeah they are nice to throw in your bag or whatever.

You definitely pay a price for that, though/

So, you have already opened the drive and observed it in operation? Most likely it's already toast then.

They aren't that sensitive to dust.. Thats a myth. They are sensative to dust in that it hurts their longevity. It doesn't erase the data or make it impossible to read. I have a couple friends who work in data recovery and they all say the clean environment is way over stated if you don't plan on keeping using the drive (which you shouldn't do).

Dust doesn't cause issue with reader, but when dust got under the header and it the speed it spins it can cause a scratch, or shatter.

So I worked for that cable company in FL. They did IP TV. The subscriptions were dropping off, so the one guy had a good idea. He had the idea to offer one of the premium channels (HBO, Starz, etc) if you bought a fast enough internet service. We made more off of internet, and this would only help us. The one management person went as far as to say "that's illegal"??? They kept telling him it wasn't possible, no one would go for it, etc.

Literally about 2 weeks later, HBO announced HBO now......

It's no wonder that no one watches cable. They refuse to innovate at all.
