@scottalanmiller said in The Register, NetApp and IDC Lose About All Credibility with This:

I posted about their lack of credibility on The Register directly, but it has no appeared yet. I no longer accept quoting The Register as a valid reference to anything. Unless they post a retraction, I can't take them seriously in any context again. This isn't a simple mistake, this is a travesty of reporting and unprofessionalism. I'm not sure which would be worse, if the author was actually this technically inept and reported on tech anyway, or if he was paid off to specifically try to mislead his readers. And how did any editor let this get onto the website?

Just now reaching that conclusion? I wondered when you'd see the light with them.

I've not found them pulling this kind of stuff in the past. Certainly not to this degree!

I'm still curious how this helps you?

Dense much? It gives you discrete real estate for your windows.

It is much easier to maximize a window on a fixed display than to actually manage window sizing for everything.

Windows built split screen windowing in in Windows 8, so I'm still not really sure what you're on about.

But if you have a 40" single screen, yeah I do like the behavior of a dual screens instead of just a single one.

But you - @JaredBusch aren't the one asking - so let the OP answer.

Just much easier to drag and expand various windows. I also like the fact that DF let's you change, remove, or add additional displays on the fly.

I have no idea where they came from, but we bought a company that had these 4 foot tall enclosed racks on wheels in all of their field offices. they locked front and rear, and were big enough for a mouse, keyboard and monitor to sit on top. with a KVM inside the door. If you have the space, I loved these things. They were durable, enough to live in retail store back rooms, and easy to work on. Similar to this.

I have models similar to this actually at the main office of this client. But again, not needed or wanted.

In Hyper-V 2016, I noticed that if you want to use Gen2 and Secure Boot, at least when booting to the .ISO installer, you need to change the Secure Boot template to "Microsoft UEFI Certificate Authority", because it defaults to "Microsoft Windows".

Odd, but, okay. So with or without salt to do this your approach would not work. You need to do some detection as to what folders hold the most data, then back that up. That variable won't give you that information even with logged in users.

Yeah - I think your idea of backing up %systemroot%\users is probably the way to go

Yes, grabbing EVERYTHING seems like it would be the most logical.

I'm guessing this is an issue with hypervisors? my older bare metal servers all (HP and IBM - not Lenovo) had utilities that allowed RAID controller management from within the OS. I haven't seen a way to manage then when a hypervisor is in place though.

Still do, he's saying that that is third party software, is all. Third party to the OS, first party to the controller.

@coliver I went through all of the drive/sync solutions recently and Sharefile was surprisingly the best. That does not include Nextcloud as I never got around to trying it.

I did try the tool @coliver mentions and a few others, but the lag on my large dataset was too much to deal with.

I do agree the web UI for ODfB is slow and buggy, definitely not something I would prefer to browsing a network drive. The sync was the worst of all tested (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc).

Maybe it will improve with that update in the fall where OneDrive Files on Demand will be integrated in Windows 10.

      @Francesco-Provino Thanks for your response.

I am confusing that the Edgerouter ERLite-3 has price $49 with 1 mil packet per second which is same price with Cisco Linksys E2500 with the packet per second (Not sure). The Cisco one which I am using it is unable to deliver the outbound call. Most of the calls are drop, busy and no voice or breaking voice.

The E2500 series Linksys uses a weak broadcomm CPU and has 64mb of RAM
      https://www.broadcom.com/products/wireless/wireless-lan-infrastructure/bcm5358x

Whereas the ERLite uses a beefy Cavium MIPS CPU and has 512MB of RAM

If the users are calling a DID instead of an extension, then of course the provider sees it and charges for it.

Sounds like the system is either misconfigured or the users were incorrectly instructed.

      Ok, got it fixed.
I was treating the allocation like I would in Hyper-V, KVM is slightly different.
      https://superuser.com/questions/1166955/memory-allocation-never-change-for-my-virtual-machine

Setting the Current & Max allocation to the same amounts, 8 or 16, fixed things up.

@stacksofplates like let the san use uts own snapshot/backup sw?

Yes, which isn't quite fully offloaded, but a reliable means of communications so that the SAN can do the majority of the work.

Actually vVols is different than SAN Snap-ins in how snapshot offload is done. VMFS snapshots do not exist at all in the case you use them. You also get a management, and command integration so you can set compliance requirements (encryption, retention, replication, performance minimums) and apply policies automatically (using OpenStack, VCD, vRA etc) and it will validate that those configurations are continuously met and alert if not. Nifty stuff.

Unless you need to record internal calls I would use your sip providers API, everyone offers it these days and usually for .0002 or so per minute. (Twilio, Telnyx etc)

I would trust Freepbx about as far as I could throw it for this task.
