(I know some Nutanix guys tried it but kept burning out SATA DOMs).

Sata dom? Who the f*** still uses them? Even when I was a c++ coder in automation industry we were phasing out them 3 years ago! Just mainteinance of production stuff.
Btw I see your point. For these applications

So it's finally happening? I remember hearing they were going to be changing the license to allow for this sort of thing. All I can say is, that's a lot of licensing money you've been prohibiting.

@scottalanmiller said in The Register, NetApp and IDC Lose About All Credibility with This:

I posted about their lack of credibility on The Register directly, but it has no appeared yet. I no longer accept quoting The Register as a valid reference to anything. Unless they post a retraction, I can't take them seriously in any context again. This isn't a simple mistake, this is a travesty of reporting and unprofessionalism. I'm not sure which would be worse, if the author was actually this technically inept and reported on tech anyway, or if he was paid off to specifically try to mislead his readers. And how did any editor let this get onto the website?

Just now reaching that conclusion? I wondered when you'd see the light with them.

I've not found them pulling this kind of stuff in the past. Certainly not to this degree!

Listening to any vendor consulting will lead to a p*** poor system but for the vendors profit.

Yeah, they brought in the wrong people here. Fundamental business flaws. Listening to the sales people instead of hiring someone whose job it is to know what is needed.

I have heard time and again that Nutanix gear has a much higher price point than its competitors. I've never actually had it quoted, however. Maybe that was the VMware fan boy in me.

      And performance issues.

This article is not about IT. it is about tech workers.

This is a big differentiation. While all IT are tech workers, not all tech workers are IT.

@scottalanmiller maybe is hw, or a problem with generic kernels, never tried to compile a personalizaed kernel :?

Servers wouldn't run on custom kernels, but they would rarely have USB either. Maybe that is all that it is, no USB on servers 🙂

So no USB keyboard or mouse..... while I get out of band management, this seems drastic.

Been decades since I had a keyboard on a server 🙂

Seems like WD has to do this due to the legal entanglements that Toshiba otherwise would have to unwind.

Looks like Harvard has followed suit and is blindly following Stanford into moving their CS program closer and closer to just being relabeled software engineering.

At least somewhere people are still interested in serious computing and not just watching Netflix on the train.
