Check out Block-chain certificates. It was proposed as a means of fixing some of these issues you are bringing up.

That's almost a workable idea. The big problem with bitcoin currently is the massive size of the block chain, if they could work around that, great!

Doesn't that have a compression part where things kinda fall off, but can be verified as still valid without holding 100% of the data?

Not that I know of. Most people that just use bitcoin to save/spend don't need the block chain at all, the server for the storage end of it takes care of that. If you're mining, or keeping your own on a personal computer, then you need the entire thing.

Here's the printer they want, and it has no display.

      http://www.brother-usa.com/Printer/ModelDetail/1/HLL2305W/Overview

Well looks like they won't be able to use it unless they use WPS.

You will not be able to print to a wireless printer that is not already on a wireless network. Almost none of them broadcast their own network until they are ON an existing network. You will not be able to just move a printer around. That is not the design for printers.

Yeah I figured as much. The setup has to go to NYC.

Here is a list of supported Brother printers for Google's Cloud Print Service, which according to Brother supports direct printing from Google's Cloud, no local PC required
      0_1465848143909_print.png

The HL-L2305W is on that list. The problem is original setup. I'm guessing that the printer has to be configured via a PC to talk to the WiFi and a google account.

Every printer in that diagram is carefully shown to have a PC sitting on its LAN. They specifically never show one without a local PC. Are you confident that no local PC is needed?

Not in every case, but yes, I know it can work with no PC on the same LAN as the printer. I've setup other printers that have a display, using that display you setup a connection with a google account, then you print via the cloud.

I am still at a lost about why we use the MLNews account. What purpose does it serve?

Same as news posting accounts on other communities. A means for a generic account for posting news items.

It would be less of a problem if Scott did better about not mixing up his tabs.

That's true. But I do keep them straight most of the time.

      Most of the time, yes.

      Top things are like this...

Reliability of the company? Integrity of the company? Companies DR planning and capability? SLA... what will happen when they have outages, what does that look like? How do you get your data out of their system? What are they allowed to do with your data? Is the system modern and under continuous development? Location of your data / what jurisdiction.

Ran into a snag today. When applying this update to a USG with a dynamic external IP, it works fine. But the moment you assign it a static IP it goes into a boot loop and removes the default gateway.

To get it back to a working state I had to hard reset the USG, re acquire and re setup.

I'll be posting to the USG boards shortly.

So I asked the Mitel Vendor - can the 5000 do non 8 or 9 based outbound dialing. Here's the response.

Navigate to System/Devices and Feature Codes/Phones, open the extension that you want to not dial an 8. Flag it for “House Phone = Yes”. Then change both house phone day and night to “8”.

But, when you do that, you get

      @Dashrender

is there a reason that isn’t the default?

      @Vendor

Then you wouldn’t be able to intercom. When that phone goes off hook it immediately is accessing ARS.

All that is doing is forcing the phone to always "dial 8" basically. Maybe I will have to revise my opinion of Mitel down.

I have only ever wokred on it at a basic level helping others. I never had a client own a system. Well one client has a Mitel system, but we only do some custom software for them.

Yep, exactly - so yeah... dialing 8 or 9 is required.

      Looks like a typing software..

I learned to type on green terminals in school. Hit print screen to print to the dot matrix with the prerated paper stuff.

Wow, I learned how to type on an electric typewriter. There was a room in our school with something 40 of them.. damn that room was loud!

I still don't type properly which is why I'm only at 86 wpm. Never broke 100.

Actually "proper" typing slows you way down. The fastest typers don't follow the "high school rules" of typing. Those rules were built for the typing pool on manual typewriters in the 1920s. They don't apply to keyboards of the last forty years.

Without proper typing I was 48 wpm on a manual in seventh grade. 68 wpm on an electric in eighth grade. Way over 100 by nine grade on a computer.

Pricing seems reasonable to me, though I don't really understand the finer details of the difference between the free and paid versions.

Mostly it is support. Looks like a few enterprise features that an SMB won't care about, but support could matter to anyone.

@Dashrender What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

my AV equipment is in a remote location to viewing area.

I want to put a monitor where the viewing equipment is so I can make changes, updates and see that the output is working without having to go back to the viewing room each time I make a change.

So this will be a temporary setup? Just to confirm everything is working?

I'm willing to buy a $100 mini monitor to leave in the AV rack permanently.

Look on Amazon or eBay for a Lilliput HDMI monitor should do what you need

I don't look at it as bleakly as you do. You in no way told the receiver they couldn't receive it, you told them they have to use a different method to receive it. Is it a good experience - I'm not going to argue that point, frankly I don't care as long as it works.

But you did... you sent them an email and the email didn't include the payload, it told you to go look in another system for the payload that didn't arrive (the princess is in another castle.) Why did you need the email if email isn't delivering the message? It's obviously similar to failure... two systems are being used for a single thing. All they want is the payload, not a message telling them about a payload elsewhere.
