@JaredBusch said in Which TV should I get?:

I have always liked Sony tv quality in the tube days. Have not kept up with tv quality since the LCD switch.

Let alone any of the new LED and OLED stuff.

Agreed, I'm really like Vizio today price wise, but the lack of HDR considering I bought my last TV 11 years ago I'd rather get something pretty close to bleeding edge.

I'd seriously research as much as you can about each specific television. There are brands that are safer than others (Samsung is generally safe, Sony as well) but this isn't always true. I got a 50 inch "lagless" Vizio smart TV for under $500. It might be the best purchase I've ever made. Absolutely perfect for what I needed. Took a ton of research to find it though.

Another thing to consider is size. I once researched the 40 inch Sharp Aquos and found a 60 inch in the store that I ended up purchasing. It's not the same TV at all. The 40 inch version was fantastic. The 60 inch was horrendous. The research really pays.

      VDI seems complex in licensing.

That is the only exception that I could think of, but is that really complex? I think the complexity is that people don't want to learn and/or admit what VDI is and make the complexity in understanding VDI, not in understanding VDI licensing.

@Carnival-Boy said in Access to CEOs of a company - should you a consumer have it?:

But this is life in general. He who shouts loudest gets the best treatment.

As someone on the autism spectrum, my natural response to people shouting louder is not to give them better service, but to immediately begin to punish them for bad behaviour. Reduce service levels or fire the client as an example to others. Someone who relies on being a bad customer to get what they want will likely always be a bad customer and will just get worse if you reward bad behaviour and others will learn to do so. Why a CEO would cave to a squeaky wheel makes no sense as it just trains customers to harass the CEO and make his life worse.

6 of one. It accomplishes what you wanted without having to go to each system and do it manually. Is it a full-on GPO setting? No. Will it work? Probably.

@Dashrender said in OneGet - anyone using it?:

uhhh I don't know - I guess... Can nuget manage packages or only make them? Can Chocolatey only manage them and not make them?

Well Chocolatey just automates NuGet. What functionality is OneGet adding is the big question.

OneGet is automating Chocolatey and any other package managers you install. From the above linked post - the idea is that you can use anything you want for a package creator/manager.. and then manage them all through OneGet.

I have a better question - why isn't MS doing this through through the MS store instead? Even on Server?

meaning... why isn' tthe Store sciptable? I think the answer is because the Store is a totally useless piece of crap and this is how actual Windows package management has to be.

That's a horrible attitude. No wonder you don't train your users. No we aren't a tech company.

It's actually an honest answer. People in general are about as smart as a bag of doorknobs.

In a Jeopardy style contest between a sack of users and a sack of doorknobs.... my money is on the doorknobs, all day long. Users are simply "average" people. The "average" person is stupider than f@ck (that's a fact), ergo users are idiots.

What other apps are you thinking of that you feel have no good alternatives?

I'm going to define the needs rather than products.

      Photo Editing (Gimp)
      Video Editing (Premier)
      Audio Editing (Audition)
      Graphic Design (Inkscape)
      Print/document design (indesign)
      Bulk video/audio encoding (media encoder)
      Certain PDF features (Acrobat)

Have you looked at Audacity or Ardour for Audio editing? I have a musician friend who uses Ardour.

I've been using Audacity for forever. Using it a lot since 2005, or so.

Though MS I'm sure has been gun shy to include these types of services for fear of being called a monopoly like in the 90's.

Quality does not get them in trouble for anti-trust.

No, including options so no other options are needed does - i.e. IE. How does including a PDF reader not make them act just like they were when IE was bundled in (oh I mean like now :P) Notice how they aren't gunshy anymore... they now have a built in PDF reader.

The bit we were discussing was the need for one to be locked down while the other does not.

Now assuming you're going to mean your deductible regardless - then it might not be worth the effort of trying to get a lower rate, because ultimately you won't save any money, and now you're spending your time and effort saving the insurance company money - and if there was a value in that I'd still be for doing that, but alas, we know there isn't.

It says you can ignore this error if you're not planning on deploying any RODCs - which I don't, but come on, who likes to see failures in tools they run, even if they can ignore them?

We had quite the discussion about that just recently 🙂

Where? Am I just blanking on it, or was I not involved?

It was mostly with @JaredBusch and ownCloud 🙂

Back on topic, I found the msexchange.org guides to be very thorough. I used the 2007 to 2013 one over the weekend and 2007 to 2010 in the past.

I will admit, that I did ignore all the info on sizing and running the MS tools and shit.

Agreed - the sizing/drive layout seem to be where they are completely crazy.. the rest seems fine, even if occasionally a little light on documentation.
