I debated it, but i barely watch TV now. If I was someone debating cutting the cord, it is a decent option.

What's the special features of it? Is it showing you your local, live shows as opposed to only re-recorded content like Netflix?

Still too expensive IMO. I do like the fact that you get to avoid cable companies and long term contracts, though.

I would like to see something like 10 channels a month for $10 and you get to pick the channels. Sure 55 or 75 channels are nice, but in reality with the combination of netflix you will never watch that many channels. I would like to get the sports channels and few other channels like history.

Netflix doesn't have current season shows on. It's as close as last season, but that's all.

If you want current season stuff you're left to something like Hulu Plus. or now Vue or Cable or OTA.

I haven't even looked at the Playstation Vue options. I dropped satellite almost 3 years ago, picked up an Channel Master DVR+ and an $18 antenna.

                It's been great so far.

You'll never get the sports channels that cheap. You want them, they know it.. they hold you over a barrel. Basic supply and demand.

But I agree that I don't want most of the crap channels they do include, like HGTV or BET or CMT, etc, I never watch those stations and would like to not have my money support them. But - in the best interest in all, the companies force the collective to pay for stations that have low numbers in the name of variety.

For example, I would to see TechTV return, but I know there isn't enough viewership to pay for it. although I wonder, in today's ability to deliver via the web instead of locked in with a cable provider, maybe it could, but maybe not. It definitely sucks getting nickel ed and dimed to death over all the small things we enjoy. You like reading 10 different magazines - that's fine, as long as you pay $40/yr or more each!

What I find unbelievable is that Netflix can not only survive, but thrive on $8-13/user/month. And thrive so hugely as to have left over money to make their own shows. I suppose if I think about it, Netflix is just the new HBO, just with an even larger movie selection that's on-demand (and yeah I know HBO has on demand now too).

But cord cutting today is generally more about options and choices and less about saving money, unless you are willing to deal with less content at the same time.

I've been using Vue for about 3 weeks now. I was using Sling for the past year but dropped it in favor of Vue. The primary reason for dropping Sling was because of Vue's DVR feature. I use my Amazon FireTV and have had very few issues.

Agreed, the DVR is an absolute requirement for me. I suppose I could learn to live with streaming services after the fact, but meh.. why?

How many hours do you get on the DVR?

To my knowledge, there is no set number of hours. I believe it only keeps the show up to 28 or 30 days. So it is not a solution if you want to record Seinfeld episodes and keep forever. It is great if you miss a weekly show, like walking dead, and want to watch it later that week.

Yep that's my understanding. The page says you can record thousands of shows simultaneously on their in cloud DVR, but they are only kept for 28 days. I really wish it was more like 60, but I could live with 28.

The suckiest part about Vue is that it's tied to your home IP address.

In fact I found a post suggesting people not use Vue because if your ISP changes your home IP, you'll get locked out of your Vue account. The post went on to say that Vue was working on this problem, and I don't know what the current fix for it is.

This is a good thing to be aware of!

How good is the service without a PlayStation? Seems to support other platforms?

I've read it both ways - sadly they don't currently support the Roku, only amazon Fire devices. that sucks! And I've seen mixed reviews on how well it works on the Fire devices...
