So when you push a button and have all your phones upgraded to the latest 3CX/Yealink firmware you pretty much know that everything is going to work afterwards.

Now that is a pretty solid value that could make up for quite a bit of cost.

I was wondering how much value this provided. I've done some firmware updates via FreePBX - been a while though - and I didn't find it very easy, though not end of the world hard either.

A push button solution though would definitely be nice. Anyone know if the endpoint module for FreePBX is there yet?

Then you were doing it wrong. Assuming you have the paid EPM, it is all just built in. Always has been.

If you were going without the paid EPM, then it is still easy if you have setup auto provisioning manually during initial setup.

      I've never used EPM.

That's the part of FreePBX that does that stuff.

Yes I know... JB has always suggested against it's value in the past.

Because setting up manually once does take some skill, but after that, it is simple file replication.

@scottalanmiller To obtain the RHCSE you need to get the RHCSA first dont you? Should I focus on getting those at all then? Im definitely going to create a Media Server this weekend and a wordpress server at home. This is good information. Im also going to look into Containers too. I have noticed that its become a hot topic these days.

The RHCE does seem to bring in job options. But certs, in general, are not a path to Linux jobs. I would focus more on gaining skills and experience. Volunteer work can do wonders for getting into Linux.

@NashBrydges said in Installing a Basic LAMP Stack on CentOS 7:

@scottalanmiller I haven't yet. About to give it a try. Stuck to legacy since that was what I was reading everywhere.

Where is everywhere? Technet says to not use legacy.

      https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-docs/compute/hyper-v/supported-centos-and-red-hat-enterprise-linux-virtual-machines-on-hyper-v

Legacy is a fallback driver that you never want to use, it's low performance and high overhead. If you needed that for CentOS, it would make Hyper-V a silly, non-production ready platform. But Hyper-V is a good, solid performer.

Not only that, but I install all of my CentOS 7 VM's as Generation 2 when on Hyper-V they work perfectly with default settings for everything except secure boot. Uncheck secure boot. Everything else is 100% default settings.

Yup, I worked with it too, it's a great product.

Are you going to be discussing Kali linux, or just touching on it?

Security is a very broad subject matter.

As this is supposed to be server, just talking about the basics to secure a Linux server. I'm thinking just cover the basics of "I've got my widget configured, what should I do before exposing it to the world?"

Kali would be bullet point, something like "Run the Kali hacking tools on it"

In larger teams, you normally have 24x7 staff. So the reboot schedule goes to the current shift to monitor. It's only shops that lack round the clock scheduling that have this as a real issue, and if you don't have 24x7, shouldn't you be outsourcing to a shop that does if you really need that at all? I think that this normally (maybe not always) becomes a problem when you are dealing with layers and layers of other problems like not having enough IT staff to properly staff a department without causing unnecessary cost and risk and choosing not to outsource to an MSP/ITSP that could do this cost effectively.
