... I've been thoroughly enjoying my new Korora notebook, and might finally leave Debian behind forever.

Update: Last night I tried to install Night of the Tentacle on Korora from my Steam library, and realized it only supports Debian file structures. Not wanting to mess around with ScummVM and also realizing many games on Steam only support Debian derivatives, I switched back to Mint. That's not to say there's no place for Korora in my life, but I may reserve it strictly for Workstations. (where selinux and increased r/w speed is an obvious advantage)

      @tiagom ummmm....

@tiagom is exactly right. You have a Panasonic device on your network, it should be behind your router/firewall, so just turn off port 22 at your router/firewall.

Better yet, do that, and change the port of sshd all together to something much higher. Yes, it's sort of "security through obscurity," but it will avoid constant bot attacks and so forth, but anyone directly wanting to attack the machine can easily find the information if it's open to the public Internet.

      Here is the finished tutorial.

Then you show adding the rails user to the sudo file with vi after adding nano.

Also, once you add a user to the wheel group, you should not need to add to the sudo file, isn't that the point of the wheel group?

you are supposed to use visudo to edit that sudoers file.

As far as installing nano twice, I may have missed that and copied it from the original.

I am not sure what the big deal is...

That sounds like someone acting like RingCentral to me. Seems very fishy for it to be RC themselves.

Very fishy, but they have confirmed it is a vendor they contract out to and will be ensuring the SPAM is stopped

Maybe a lot of their problems are third party vendors doing things in their name.

Then they must be a deity of some sort...

Obviously HA functionality which would start the VM's has to be disabled as well.

Otherwise you'll end up in a loop with the system trying to power off the VM's until your UPS loses power.

      That would be bad, mmmmm'k.

@scottalanmiller I couldn't find a way to mark the post as closed/ answered. Do I need to do anything to shut this one down?

It's currently marked as a discussion rather than as a question. In theory you can use the Topic Tools and "Mark as Question". Once it is a question, then you can go to an individual post and mark that one as the answer OR you can use the Topic Tools again and just mark it generically answered.

So here is a quesiton. When you first add a secondary DC/DNS, do you go back to the original DC and update the DNS on the NIC? Or do you leave the original pointing only to 127.0.0.1?

@BBigford said in Torch malware / browser?:

If we're talking about the same Torch, it's not malware. It has a torrent client embedded in it so that might be throwing up a flag.

Not to say it might be a phishing variant, or be compromised in another way. But the browser itself is fine (based on Chrome). Used it for a couple years before moving on.

I saw that there is a split on whether or not it is technically "malware", but that's not as much my concern. I just need to be able to positively tell the customer that it didn't come from our side (and I'm feeling pretty confident in that it did not).

And to my eyes, @BBigford, its behavior absolutely qualifies it as malware. Too much sneaky stuff going on when you use it, pop up ads all over the place, the use of the word "toolbar", etc, but I digress.

@scottalanmiller we have an ERP system that MOST of the companies work is done in.

They could still use office and such, but without the link the ERP stuff is useless. Production could continue on paper, it would just slow down

Email isnt local either, we use cloud based email which is stemmed from the datacenter.

That is a good point thank you for mentioning that
