And this point, it would be easier for me if I could run this Invoice Ninja (self-hosted) on my Windows Server 2012 R2 Applications/Web Server but even had struggles getting that going...

Did you try @Romo's installer for it? Should make Ubuntu 16.10 the easiest option since it is known to work already. PHP, MariaDB and all of that on Windows is quite a pain, in general.

That Linux isn't the best option for your grandparents.

Because you say so, does not make it a myth.

The myth is that it isn't. People just assume it is hard, which is a myth.

That it is, is your opinion. Your opinion, does not make a myth.

While Linux being hard is a myth or not, is not related.

How is it not related? The one is predicated on the other.

No it does not. Because you are mixing Linux being hard or simple with an opinion that Linux is the best option for grandparents.

That's the full myth. That all Linux is hard and therefore is always bad for grandparents. Linux is not always hard and not always a bad option for grandparents.

No. Linux can be hard and still be the best solution, but it isn't the best solution.
Linux can be easy, and still not be the best solution, and it isn't the best solution.

Updated to the latest NVM and NodeJS versions.

There is also the ability to check out the repo and just use get to pull the current but if I do that how do I didn't install in the same fashion that this is installed?

      I've not tried that either.

We have some boxes that have no SSH. We use Salt. If we need SSH, we can turn it on and lock it down for the user in question and shut it down when the need is no longer there.

      Thanks @JaredBusch

I went on site and ran the wizard and it was a quick process to fix things. The relevant part of the new config looks like:

      interfaces { ethernet eth0 { address dhcp description Internet duplex auto firewall { in { name WAN_IN } local { name WAN_LOCAL } } speed auto } ethernet eth1 { description Local duplex auto speed auto } ethernet eth2 { description Local duplex auto speed auto } ethernet eth3 { description Local duplex auto speed auto } ethernet eth4 { description Local duplex auto speed auto } loopback lo { } switch switch0 { address 192.168.1.1/24 description Local switch-port { interface eth1 { } interface eth2 { } interface eth3 { } interface eth4 { } } } } port-forward { auto-firewall enable hairpin-nat enable lan-interface switch0 wan-interface eth0 }

I feel like, and of course I am guessing, that you are caught in a world of "get it down now, screw doing it right" which is causing every project to take more work than it should and more effort to support long term making it increasingly impossible to get on top of things to do it right to start fixing the problems.

Sort of...on this latest project that is taking "too much time", they now just want to create 146 separate Word documents with the needed data rather than give me a little more time to come up with something on my own.

Just so we're clear on terms, firewall vs UTM, the difference you all are noting is access rules vs packet inspection?

All firewalls do access rules and FAIAP packet inspection. Anything less and it is just a router.

The thing that points to there not being anything to worry about, while lacking the "unlimited" is a bit odd, is that those with limits say that there are limits. It doesn't say unlimited, but it does give a limit, either.

Of course, in more modern systems, the use of advanced LVMs instead of older partitions makes this a little more flexible so that more control over the process can exist. But all of the core problems still exist.

Some vendors try to market this mechanism as "RAID virtualization", which isn't a completely crazy name due to the layers of abstraction, but it makes it sound valuable when, in reality, it is not. RAID virtualization when used for the purpose of enabling hot or live RAID array growth is generally a good idea. Used as a kludge to enable bad ideas, it remains bad.

1U and 2U commonly have "single server" prices. Once in a while you can get 3U and 4U prices but after 2U you normally go for a fractional rack. 3U+ servers aren't often useful for hosting. Not many are made and those that are typically aren't very dense.

It's huge. So many places go to cloud computing and have no idea what they are buying.
