@Kelly said in Ubiquiti now available retail:

Just so we're clear on terms, firewall vs UTM, the difference you all are noting is access rules vs packet inspection?

All firewalls do access rules and FAIAP packet inspection. Anything less and it is just a router.

The thing that points to there not being anything to worry about, while lacking the "unlimited" is a bit odd, is that those with limits say that there are limits. It doesn't say unlimited, but it does give a limit, either.

Of course, in more modern systems, the use of advanced LVMs instead of older partitions makes this a little more flexible so that more control over the process can exist. But all of the core problems still exist.

Some vendors try to market this mechanism as "RAID virtualization", which isn't a completely crazy name due to the layers of abstraction, but it makes it sound valuable when, in reality, it is not. RAID virtualization when used for the purpose of enabling hot or live RAID array growth is generally a good idea. Used as a kludge to enable bad ideas, it remains bad.

1U and 2U commonly have "single server" prices. Once in a while you can get 3U and 4U prices but after 2U you normally go for a fractional rack. 3U+ servers aren't often useful for hosting. Not many are made and those that are typically aren't very dense.

@gjacobse said in Do you know all your APs?:

Ah - but in this case (not all)

It was an AP received and setup by the onsite IT prior to NTG take over.

So it was a Valid Device and SSID prior to it being discontinued. But 'unknown' to NTG. So it was a valid / working / known device just not known to us.

Did you install the new wireless? If the answer is yes the failures on you. You should've never left the site without confirming the old SS IDs were no longer broadcasting.

On the other hand if everything was set up by the previous person and you just took over management I can easily see this.

NTG has added four maybe five APs - all UBNT and attached to the UBNT Controller. We will be adding one ore two more in the near future likely to cover this new gap, and to extend as needed in other areas of the office / shop.

That still doesn't answer my question.

huh, that's still less than normal APs from Cisco.

That's the point is they now have future parity with MIMO capabilities and are still cheaper.

That wasn't my point. My point was that UBNT's new MIMO AP is less expensive than Cisco's non MIMO (aka normal AC) AP.

@Mike-Davis said in iLo 2 can't see remote console:

@Dashrender It depends on the Gen. I know Gen 8 (not sure on others) will give you 5 minutes of access before booting you off. Most will give you console access until the server is done posting.

Yeah I realized in talking to others that I did get POST access on this old G5, but as soon as the OS booted, just get the grey screen seen above. What's weird is that the mouse and keyboard commands are being sent to the system, but the CNTRL + ALT + DEL button didn't work without the license. meh.

Interesting: Fedora 25 starts to panic with RAM < 512MB at the beginning of the kernel init phase, even in text mode. Just had a look at the manual which clearly says that Fedora requires 1GB of RAM.

Looks like I'm out of luck and have to stick to Ubuntu / Debian.

Another thing to note is with RHEL/CentOS 7.3 they recommend a 1GB boot partition instead of 512MB.

      Just an aside.

Should work as long as you keep an eye on it. Ubuntu for example likes to keep old kernel and initrd images there until you clean them up (e.g. apt autoclean etc)

Ya I usually keep 3 and remove the others but I think the images are getting big enough they needed to adjust the size. If you do anew install it defaults to 1GB.
