Vagrant is much better than kickstarting

      Why is it better?

It's much faster and you can use tools like Ansible to provision the Vagrant boxes. It's just really flexible and fast.

How is anything you are saying not victim shaming if you aren't calling me a liar?

First of all, no, I do not believe you are ever lieing because, lies are false statements made with deliberate intent to deceive. If I feel you say something that is untrue when you believe it to be true, and I disagree with what you say, does NOT ever fucking make it okay for you to tell me I'm calling you a liar. Stop doing that. I'm not talking specifically about this case so don't quote my previous statement because it will then be out of context. I'm saying in general, that if someone disagrees with you, does not in any way give you the right to say they are calling you a liar. Lies are specific to deliberate intent to deceive, what you are inserting is wrong.

So if it's raining outside and you ask me what the weather is, and I tell you it's sunny and clear.

      I'm not lying?

      and be fully updated.

I noticed that the defualt CentOS 7 image was pretty much fully up to date before I ran the install script. Only thing that came down when I ran yum update -y was wget.

Yeah, it is more of a "just in case" something is out of date. I almost never see it not fully up to date when I fire it up.

and now "Throughput degradation by 5-10% when comparing with v1.10.9 firmware with older kernel"

Yeah the comments.. I have not been following the beta cycle as I have been too busy.

I did put it on a test router (ERL) with no issues.

Does the 2.0.x series work with ZT? I have an ERX now and was going to try it out.

The ERX doesn't work well with the 2.0.X firmware yet from what I have seen.

But yes. You can put ZT on the 2.X firmware.

Thanks for the heads up. I already have routing and all set up through a VM, so it's not critical, just thought I'd ask.

It feels like the OP thinks that this is a seller's forum as opposed to a group of IT professionals looking to help each other out. Or just trolling to waste time. Or a college kid who was given an assignment and is looking for us to provide the answer.

And yet another way to think of it...

A stateful system is focused, at least partially, on saving to and retrieving from storage. It is a "data at rest" system.

A stateless system is focused, essentially entirely, on data "in flight". Processing of data moving from one point to another.

@Emad-R said in Does Container tech makes backups and RAID obsolete:

      Hi,

Do containers and management platform for containers, makes all the hard work of making the server resilient obsolete like RAID and backups, however we will assume that the DB are hosted outside of this scope like on Amazon services.

If you have a server running 500 containers, would it be easier for automation to spin up another 500 containers on new hardware (while dealing with whatever issues are caused by 500 containers being down) or easier to have RAID and simply swap a disk and continue on?

Actually for "easier", the container spinups can be automated, but the drive swap requires a human. The real effort is in acquiring another server to spin them up on. One approach is ignoring that an entire replacement server is needed.

Having a full server die and take all of its workloads with it has all the same impact with containers as with anything else. Containers are really just "really heavy threads", nothing more.

This same issue is happening today once again, VPN is connecting properly but I can't properly reach anything properly on the local lan or the internet.

You should just buy a new edge router to exclude any hardware issues.

Valid option. The cost is minimal compared to the time you are spending.

Take a look at what the system comes with. From a quick check, I'm almost certain both CentOS and Fedora ship with rsyslog, which would lead me to believe that the Pi would have that or something very similar. If not, rsyslog does at least have an ARM package.

      Pi runs Debian.

Yeah, I don't have any debian-based systems I can check right now, but I know it still has the mechanism built-in. Just might not be rsyslog.

The Java exception, from what I recall, is due to your settings in the server file, limiting the ram. Change the server file to allocate double or triple the ram already configured.

MC with mods takes a lot of RAM.

Only when you have more than one person playing. The more people in the world, the memory requirements multiply.

The mods need RAM to load into Java, even before users are logged in the server needs to be able to start up. This is no different than with any OS + whatever you might want to do with it.

The environment requires X at minimum.

Sure if you give the server minimum requirements you'll notice...
