I don't think there is anything you can do using file permissions.

Instead you should replace the access db with some type of SQL then ODBC into it.

I suppose you might be able to do the

I find this happens most often to my users when they are trying to reconnect to a RemoteApp that they had left open and got disconnected from. I've seen it happen to Word & Excel, as well as a number of internal applications that we use here.

Unfortunately, like you, I usually have to log in to the server and boot them off.... I usually just keep an RDS session open to that server and leave a script running to make it easier for me to kill a user's hung session.

      https://gitlab.wellston.biz/dafyre/powershell-scripts

autoUserSessionDetails.ps1 Should help you with that. If your machine is AD joined, you can run it from your own machine, but I still recommend running it from the Connection Broker.

@Carnival-Boy said in Backing up Office 365 mailboxes:

Has anyone been involved in an e-discovery action?

I have never implemented an e-mail retention policy. I really should. A quick Google brings up this document https://www.theemaillaundry.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Email_Retention_UK.pdf, which says:

Is your company in a heavily regulated industry that has existing data retention requirements? Outside of regulations
governing certain industries, the answer is usually a bit nebulous in terms of defining clear retention periods. In the US For
SEC- and FINRA-regulated firms, Rule 17a-4 of the Securities and Exchange Act requires retention of emails for at least three
years, with the first two years stored in an easily accessible place. In the UK the Financial Services Authority (FSA) regulates
financial services providers. The FSA's regulations require all financial institutions to store all business emails sent and
received for up to six years, and some emails indefinitely, so that cases can be reviewed.
But outside of financial services, there is no universal law for document retention. The only far-reaching requirement is to
preserve documents, emails and information when a company is on notice of pending litigation (per FRCP(US) CRP(UK)). At
this point, a “litigation hold” must be implemented to retain information the company reasonably believes is discoverable in
anticipated litigation. However, email retention requirements vary from industry to industry and from case to case.

I'm in Manufacturing, which doesn't appear to be regulated. I believe any retention policy should centre around less is more, ie delete as much e-mail as you can legally get away with to reduce your exposure during e-discovery. So on those grounds, I think I should be actively NOT backing up e-mail and should NOT use GFI to archive e-mail or purchase licences for O365 legal hold. I believe O365 retains deleted mail for a maximum of 30 days which covers you for accidents and malware but not much else.

Then again, should I be losing any sleep over this when the next President of The US gets away with just using Hotmail?

      Any views?

That's pretty much my feelings on it. I think our retention here is two years. At which point it auto-deletes!

They can come to your door with lawyers if they actually think youre 'stealing' imaginary property. But they need permission from a court to do so. And you dont have to do anything for them, at all, ever, without this order. At least in the US that is.

Actually they already have permission when you agree to the EULAs.

That's what gets you. Run any of their products and you've already agreed to bypassing the court needs. Only time that the court is required is if you are not running any BSA covered products - and basically everyone is.

@Breffni-Potter This. It's a transient data store and is not meant to be used in the way you are attempting to use it. It is more for convenience then anything else. I don't think it migrates within Exchange Online unless they are using the Outlook Web App.

If the contacts and info are important have the users save them as contacts to a shared resource.

Even if the 6 offices are totally independent? We have a 200mb line coming in so is it not fair to allocate each port 32mb each? Or do you think I should just leave it defaulted but prioritise QOS for voip?

      Correct.

Does someone have any examples of actual QOS rules for the EdgeRouterX series? I've got the basic "Download = 700kbps, Upload=300kbps" for our connections, but that's it so far.

Since version 1.8 or maybe 1.7 even, they added new a QoS process outside of the original traffic shaping stuff.

fq_codel is the new standard and is in the GUI.

Yeah, when I looked around everything I found was still command line based.

Well, as you can see from that screenshot, i have not bothered to update mine to fq_codel either...

Also, nearly anyone can setup an Access created JetDB, but those same people probably have no clue how to transfer it into a SQLExpress

Pretty sure that it is just a check box when setting up your Access application.

I haven't created an Access created DB since Office 2007 or was it XP? I'm guessing that checkbox is new (to me).

I have a feeling that given the question, they want the customer to put a written policy into place for whatever they describe in the paragraph.

yes, i'd like to apply this to all remote users.
Note: the users ONLY use Excel as a published remote app and its the Office/Excel date format that is in US when we'd like it to be UK.

Yes, i have changed as admin on the RDS server both the server time/date/regional settings and also Office Language settings.

I'd like the GPO to apply to ALL & ANYONE who logs onto the server or uses the remote app Excel.

You may want to talk to someone at a reseller like Misco or Softcat that's a specialist as Microsoft licensing can be tricky.

We did lose half of one switch a year or two ago. But that was a lightning strike and the switch is still in use anyway!

Yeah, we had lightning strike here and take out 4 switches. I took the opportunity to consolidate down to 2 replacements. One of them near where I suspect it came in through is still going strong!

      Even with a UPS?

Yep, had the two UPS units those were on get blown as well. That was a rough week.

      Wow. Tough.

Yeah, our label printer got hit as well. That stupid thing is so twichy with power that you look at it crooked and have it zap itself. Server came through it just fine tho 🙂
