Oh I know it's from foxconn. But the hardware testing that they put into the components is what makes it run well.

      Not who makes the hardware.

Nope. But we don't use E series. They don't come with height adjustable stands. We mostly use ultra Sharp series.

What is it about having to pay $200+ (and realistically more like $300+) for a monitor to have height adjustability?

Which is why we bought the E-series and harvested the adjustable stands of the E2310H/E2311H models. I think the Dell monitors have that proprietary stand connector, not something universal like VESA but I'd have to check.

Well, that's not nice. I really, really like the $70 VESA swing arm mount I have at home.

that place sounds exactly like Drop Box, only a little smaller. I visited Drop Box last year.. glass conference rooms, open floor plan, almost no cubicals, everyone wearing headphones.

      free lunch/drinks/snacks everyday... etc.

      Headphones are the new cubicles.

Man, yeah - I'm wondering is this dog is just to old for that.

I'm happy with having my own office. I don't even like cubicals, I get distracted too much.

That's why people like them. Cubicles are the "go to" for people looking to talk to friends at the office and have a solid excuse for why they did no work.

I'll actually agree with that. Having an actual office, even if it's no bigger than a cubical, with a door is definitely helpful in my ability to concentrate.

Yeah, I'm totally useless with cubicles or an open plan. If I hear people talking, I can't think. And cubicle plans means that someone is always talking about gambling or sports. Always. It never ends.

It was acting funny on my computer even before the conversion. Dual screens, 1 was black 1 was a GUI. You had to click somewhere in the black screen to get it to interact in the other screen. That magically went away (I didn't do anything but just reboot the machine a few times). Doesn't seem stable enough to dump more time into it.

Considering the hack Mint suffered recently - I've seen reports that indicate they aren't doing that great of a job securing their distro.

Can anyone attest to that one way or the other?

Mint hack? I've heard of a number of security problems with open source things, but completely missed the Mint one. Got any handy reference?

It wasn't an OS issue. It was just a download issue.

So I attempted the install last night. There aren't any rpm packages, so I downloaded the source from GitHub and ran their like 4 installers. The web interface came up with the logo but nothing else in it. I tried getting the agent installed on the server, but that failed. I changed the giant amount of data in the configs they wanted changed, and ran everything from their Readme, but still got errors when I tried to start the agent. I just gave up. I'll stick with Virt-Manager and virsh.

Setting it up definitely is not easy to do, that's the most major problem for now I think. I hope once they reach whatever goals they're trying to shoot for, they focus on making it easy to setup.

Ya if I actually needed it or cared, I would have stuck it through. It's on my server at home, so I just didn't feel like putting in the effort. Maybe that's lazy lol.

Why not just setup a Rocket Chat VM and test it out between the IT department. It doesn't take that long to get setup.

Especially as I have it all scripted 🙂

Still wondering though, how can you build a driver repository with exes, rather than inf files?

Maybe it has an INF calling the exe somewhere.

Your last post "WDS only uses INF" contradicts that statement. If it only uses INF files, EXEs are not needed. You are right in the first post that WDS only uses INF files.

It's not a contraction, INF files can call other filters and such to install besides the INF itself. Not usually Exe's but there are numerous ways to call in other files with a driver INF.

@BBigford Overall this is just poor planning. I shouldn't have built them on the actual machines. I should have built virtual images so I could:

      *Obtain snapshots before sysprep and
*Get around sysprep rearm because snapshots date back prior to first sysprep.

If I can convert them, I don't have to rebuild them. 🙂

Maybe we are just horrible but, whenever a user forgets to do something like this it's on them and up to their manager to enforce it. We don't make changes like this in a users account. If we actually did that something like that would need approval from the COO or CEO.
