Well, that's case case with most products - though it sounds like CP has some sort of indexing it has to do on the server side post backup - so that's a drag.

Are there any more traditional backup products that can be used - hate to mention them, but something like Backup Exec - something that can backup to a local system, then push to a cloud source.

Also, I'm wondering - why do you need to worry about end point computers? Can't your users save all there work to a network drive?

We could use something like Unitrends, but there are only about a dozen Macs so the cost isn't justified. I think we would end up running a few thousand if I remember right. I put OSX Server 10.11 on a laptop to test the new functionality. Not nearly as good as it used to be, and it was never really that good.

Did you reboot post install? 😛

I tried using it for a client one time. It didn't work, at all. We escalated the issue to Apple support all the way to engineering. Yup, Apple just isn't a business focused company. Sure their desktops are better than their server, but the overall issues are really that Apple just doesn't take business needs seriously and still sees their products as an entertainment platform, not a business one.

Would encryption work in your case? Each individual mac get's its backups encrypted.

I've run dcdiag, everything comes back showing healthy.

I don't want to go the route of the registry fix because I've saw this in multiple domains now, and it doesn't fix the root of the cause, it is just a work around and writing off the situation as "it's just a corrupt profile". Well I don't see how it can be corrupt when it's never been on that server before...

Seems like too common of a problem, and has been happening for years for there not to be more coverage on the matter than just deleting it from ProfileList.

SCCM isn't worth the trouble. You really don't gain much when you count all the time you have to put into it.

Dell KACE is probally one of the best/most flexible options out there. Not cheap though..

Guessing you also use MDT/WAIK for building. Just using WDS to deploy?

I'm not very strong with PowerShell yet. I imagine that's what I have to do in this instance though unless someone knows a better way. I would have to write the script, then just drop it in scheduled tasks. I have never saw anything in the GUI even remotely mentioning automated restores.

We had all of our network gear in our College apartment on a trigger with a switch at everyones desk. That way we could reboot the 802.11b router every 2 hours with out standing up. 😉

I always thought that was small part of it. The bigger parts, from my reading, was the US expansion westward, which resulted in fighting from British supported Native American tribes, and the trade embargoes setup by the British Empire on US interests in Europe.

Hard to say 201 years later, but that always seems to have been a very minor factor.

@BBigford It does everything automatically, via GPO, not really one at a time. LAPS prevents each local admin from having the same password. Obviously, if you want everything to be the same then you wouldn't want to use it.

EDIT: You can still use the bat file (mentioned above) if you want to create a specific user with a specific password and assign it to the local admins group. Keep in mind that it is plain text, as was the method you were previously using.

Uses the hostname instead of IP... Some of the settings I've saw in the config:

Server FQDN: exchange-server.domain.com (older server with relay configured)
Server Port: 25
From Address: [email protected] (has a resource mailbox in Exchange, with a password to authenticate)

Right... so what are the questions about how to do this with a Linux relay? You already have a dedicated relay. It's just swapping out the name of the OS and the cost and stability involved. Nothing "changes." You are already doing everything as if you had a Linux relay.

I just didn't know how the Linux relay tied to hosted Exchange, but you already said you can define that in the relay by entering credentials for the hosted instance.

No, you wouldn't really use the credentials, that's pretty silly. You just... relay. Email is WAY simpler than I think you are picturing. None of that is necessary.

How does email ever get to where it is going? It just sends the email. It looks up the server's MX record. It's how every email everywhere gets delivered.

Of course, that's how all email is sent that is not internal to the server itself, which wouldn't actually be email. So to simplify... yes, that is how all email is sent.

In the US it is called the ABA not sort code. ABA are certainly not secret.

As for an account number. No thanks. not going to get it from me. Then again I also do not have a checkbook. I pay the minimal fee to get a money order when I rarely (typically not even once a year) need to pay that way.

What didn't you like about the Elitebooks (did you test these new low power ones, or just the "standard" form factor Elitebooks that have been around a while)? We've had some of the Elitebook 2560s, etc. Just standard laptops with good specs. I don't care for the driver support when it comes to WDS, but any laptop seems to be tricky since drivers are so particular with laptops.

Have you tried the M series processors yet? If so, how'd they do for you?

We have some of the Skylake CPUs I believe but not in the HPs we tested. They were fine. We don't worry about them that much..

Elitebooks we tried where a mixture of standard and ultrabooks. The quality wasn't there for us they would not hold up in our environment. The Docks for them are slated to be discounited in favor of USB 3.0 only so that was a major factor too.
