@hubtechagain has a thread about it. He's pretty impacted (by the outage, not from his fiber intake.) Pertino responded that they are aware and are working on it.

can you merge threads now? would be nice.

I just checked. No merge feature yet 😞

Adam - welcome to the community and overlay networking!

Not trying to hijack the thread as this appears to be a ZT feature request topic, but since Pertino has come up a number of times, here are the answers:

DNS: PITA. We solved it by using customer internal DNS in AD environments. This is a solution for many customers, but not the end all. Without some type of local integration, overlay networks can never really be used for an internal company network because protocols will not translate.

Free plans: all trials revert to a free network for up to 3 devices; existing free plans with more devices are still live - thanks beta testers! Take the class-action suit to LMI 😘

Chef/Puppet: you can automate Pertino installs with your orchestration tools. We even have a Docker compatible client for cloud-bursting, cross-DC networking

LDAP integration/custom UI: We've got some APIs already available, some in the works. Plan is to make it so if you don't want to, you never have to enter the Pertino console.

    Best,
    Josh

Cached mode for 2016 is disabled just like all the rest, yeah!

I do this because calendars don't play nice when you're opening up 12 other people calendars regularly, and so are 80 other people.

No cached mode means you're working live on the system at all times, or your not working at all.

What do you expect to happen? That DNS queries should all go to the DNS server provided by the VPN DHCP request?

That's the hope if it is working correct. The VPN client should set the IP address of the workstation with a VPN address and make the primary DNS entry be one that looks through the VPN to the AD DC / DNS server with internal resolution. If not, why not? If so, what IP gets returned. The right one? Or if the wrong one, why?

Good point, let's start a new topic on Split Horizon DNS. When to use it and if it makes sense in your case 🙂

Even though we couldn't possibly push a full month's backup (~24TB [this would comprise 4 weeks of full backups]) offsite it might be viable for the incremental backups. Which is what I now need to look into, and our weekly delta is low enough that we need to weigh the options of taking tapes / disks home weekly with the cost to restore from an online storage provider.

You can't keep incrementals offsite without the fulls. Incrementals only are useful with fulls. The two are part of the same package.

Depends. I've never seen an enterprise shop with enterprise system admins that were not more expensive than the storage guys. Close, but systems is the top payer. I've known many $200K and higher systems people. No storage people at $200K. But lots over $150K.

Cost more but can do more. I'm not saying what my pay is, but my bonus is more than my whole salary at my previous employer.

Yup, system admins generally can do "nearly anything." Whereas storage admins generally can do only one thing. And if you change storage products you generally have to replace your storage team too.

Here is the site I was on.. but when I visit now, there is no prompt.

I suppose it's possible I visited another page in a different tab, then killed the tab, and the prompt at the bottom of IE 11 stayed across tabs.

If the idea is keeping the budget down, software RAID sounds like a great option. That is a large chunk of cash necessary to get a quality RAID controller.

@scottalanmiller Seems like more has happened with Hyper-V in the last 12 months, than it ever has in development. I'll be excited to see what happens in the next few years, especially with RemoteFX and VDI (setting up some Raspberry Pi 2's from Amazon for $70, and Raspberry Thin PC download). Tried it out over this last spring in a VMware Horizon View environment, and all I can say is wow. That install has pretty much every remote protocol. You can harden the client by locking out the docks/settings/etc once you're all done setting it up. Not perfect, but nearly there.
