How did they end up with a limitation like that? That seems crazy.

We don't allow access. It requires a written letter signed by the employee and their boss to be submitted to the board for approval. we have 2 users across a very large company as well. we also don't support anything users make with formulas or macros in excel.

I like Trello. I currently use a similar self-written system for ticketing and general task management based around scrum and kanban boards (scrumban). The main flaw I've had with it (and the reason for moving to something else) is the management of e-mail "conversations". Our calls often involve several e-mails pinging backwards and forwards between users, and the ability to have this managed inside a ticketing system will be a real benefit.

But the main flaw of ticketing systems is that they're not designed for scrum or kanban. Over 50% of our work is project based, so doesn't fit easily into a standard ticketing systems which is designed around quicker turnaround of calls. I love scrum for project management.

Between my system, Trello, Zendesk and Asana I can picture the perfect solution. However, there doesn't seem to be one single solution that ticks all my boxes. The only way I'll achieve this is by developing my own system, but the time to do that is really time I should be spending on other jobs.

As a consultant, when I am at a client site, I generally work through without eating unless it is a site I visit on a regualr basis. Then it just depends. If I am travelling, I will go out and get something. If I am local, I generally will bring something and eat it in the break/lunch room.

That doesn't work when you have a lot of inbound rules as well as multiple Toll Free lines as well.

Sure it does. You just need an emergency IVR message stating there is a problem with the telephone provider and calls are being rerouted to a backup system. Then dump the calls to a few desginated emergency operators.

We have lines with a roll over agreement between to providers so we don't have to do that.

You're situation is a bit larger than most, so those agreements are definitely a good idea.

Our provider does allow us to designate a failover forward to phone number, so in the case where the SIP traffic can't register, it would auto failover.

We just started using O365 for CRM and Yammer.

CRM is picking up for sales pipelines, sales forecast etc, and slowly moving to do project management, timesheet etc with the PSA module, currently the free one as we are still in the beginning phase on using CRM (http://www.assistancesoftware.com/psa/licenses/)

Final target would be to use CRM as an all in one place for project management, sales forecast, and probably use the service module as a basic ticketing system as well, but a long way to go as it is still new and people are just getting to know the system.

Yammer on the other hand is just for knowledge sharing, more of a corporate facebook alternative, which again we are planning it very carefully as the last time we tried (free Yammer), was just total chaos as people starting posting anything and everything and literally tried replacing FB in the office in the beginning and then totally stopped. New O365 Yammer, we are using mainly for news on whats happening on CRM portal for example, other news in the company, tech news etc.

Hmmm... we have an IBM server that does exactly that. Restarts as soon as power is restored. It has been tested fairly regularly as we don't have the best power infrastructure in upstate NY.

In central NY that is. Here in Frankfort where I am today the power is outstanding and in the Buffalo/Niagara grid it is really good. But outside of local generation pockets, the center of the state is the area where it is roughest.

      Hi Dash

We've been on holiday all last week, so I haven't had time to reply!

      mango.jpg

To clarify, the stored job feature works when sending to the old print server, but not the new one. HOWEVER! I've tried again and it is now working on the new print server. Not sure what I'm doing differently now to before I went on holiday. I hate printers! Anyway, I'm back on track. It is still slow accessing the printer, which I'm suspicious about. I will now setup some other HP printers and see if they are any quicker or have similar issues with stored jobs and will report back.

I wouldn't install Personal use software in a normal company, that's a bad idea and just asking for trouble.

However in my case it's fine. None of the free or personal use software I have is licensed based on where it's installed but based on it's use. It's fairly common for company to even give out NFR/Non-Commercial use software when you do some pro-bono work that could use it.

It's 120v most people call it 110v for some reason.

Because historically 110 was used a lot prior to the national 120 standard.

Related: most of the rest of the world has standardized on 230V.

Yeah but that's been a very long time. That hasn't been since people only used lighting in their house. and it was even originally 100v then moved to 110v. That was long before the time of multiple phase distribution.

You don't know their names? Anyone I've ever had allowed to remote in has to had to have paper work on file and we did background checks on them ourselves before they were allowed in ours systems. When it comes to any issues that may occur this information is really needed.

When you are dealing with helpdesk outsourcing that can be tough as you are dealing with a pool of people, not a named engineer.

I've always done if for the people that were on vendor support contracts. Not a big deal just meant every time there was a new employee there was a day or two delay til they could do anything with their software on our network. Much of it was required by regulations anyway.

So I think I'm best off purchasing a new wildcard cert for a different domain to the one we use for Exchange. This way I leave Exchange and our main domain UCC cert alone, and our intranet sites use their own domain name externally (eg intranet1.domain2.com; intranet2.domain2.com).

      Does that sound ok?

Not in many users, back when Core was first introduced... It's possible/likely that many vendors selling products meant to be installed on Windows Server now work with Core.

What applications are you referring? Most things that run on a server could care less if they are a gui or not as they primarily run as services. MS Dymanics is not supported on Core and I've never done it on core nor would I try it.

Symantec Backup Exec wouldn't run on Core back in the 2008 R2 days. Yes a client would work to Core, but the main install couldn't go on a Core server.

Backup Exec, you mean the product that's always had lots of problems since symantec took it over. and they took years to even get server 2012 support. Backup Exec is a black sheep anymore.

      Yep I'm talking 5-6 years ago ....
