      @BBigford said in Lightweight Linux...:

Since LXDE is just the desktop environment, what is the most popular distro really being downloaded since it can be used on many?... Lubuntu?

Was also looking into VectorLinux Light with LXDE...

I general avoid light distros, light ones and heavy ones are REALLY close to each other until you get to really ridiculously unusably light. So Mint, Fedora, Suse or Lubuntu would be the way that I would go. We use LXDE here on Mint 18.

Do they swell with barometric pressure or are you suggesting that the ramp agents throwing it around can cause a battery to become unstable?

      Yes.

The question was an either or... So I'm guessing 'yes' is to both in combination. 😄

Your guess is correct. When all options are correct, I do tend to answer with just a single yes instead of further elucidating.

So now, the only way for someone to get my info is to physically come in my house and take it (which is a different discussion).

There is always another means of compromise, just thinking that there isn't itself is a security risk. One that I guarantee AWS' security team (ranked the best in the world) doesn't make. They also have monitoring and people there 24x7 always watching everything with the best AI and the best human I that there is. Nothing you do gives you the tools that they have, nothing.

But beyond that, the fact that someone could grab your stuff physically alone is enough to end the discussion. Amazon effectively removes that risk. You can't physically target data at Amazon. You can't target it via software tools, you can't target it with guys and a trunk and guns. You have to attack through different vectors.

      This.
I keep getting shot down for so many services we could have hosted because our Sprint contracts say we can't use a hosting provider because the cloud is insecure. Same goes for anything HIPPA. But cloud security and monitoring is far superior to anything I could offer on a budget. If I had a ton of time... Maybe. But I don't, and that would cost the client a ton more even if I did.

      HIPAA does NOT undermine security.

I would hope not. Intentionally not looking at every secure resource is just flat out negligent and naive. But I haven't had to do anything with HIPAA, yet. I've only talked to some of the admins at our local hospital about it.

HIPAA just has statements like "equal to or above standard industry security practice". It's very general and puts it on the IT and security teams to ensure that they are meeting basic security practices. If anything, having data not on an enterprise cloud should be a red flag and trigger an audit generate a sysadmin resume.

      FTFY. 😄

Fiber to the box in my neighborhood with copper running from there - how would that be different than fiber terminated on the edge of your house that you still can't touch?

Because there is no fiber TO YOU at all. Your last mile is coax. All services are fiber backed and named by the last mile - what goes TO YOU.

You have coax, plain and simple. FiOS is fiber, plain and simple.

I made a short video on the specifics of some of the mechanisms on a few different firearms so you can see some differences of safeties, levers, etc.

Important note for anyone new or need a refresher on firearms safety... you'll notice I check the guns over and over for bullets. Even before the video started, I unloaded the magazines and checked the chambers. Even if you know, and verified, there is no mag in the firearm, no bullets inside either the mag or the chamber, don't pull the trigger when the firearm is pointed at something unsafe to shoot at. Only in demonstrations will I put a hand in front of the muzzel, and even then I prefer a safety orange gun (dummy gun). But in the instance of the 1911, an orange gun couldn't be used to show the action.

The way you worded your question it's almost as if you think that if you have your own company you won't have regular pay. As @JaredBusch said if you form a company and write yourself a paycheck every week, you do have regular pay.

Once you have a certain number of customers, you actually have more job security than with a single employer. If you lose one customer, you may lose 10% of your salary, but not everything.

Anyone who thinks that disk encryption protects a machine that is decrypted is just wrong. Them being wrong is the issue. In no way does it imply that the service failed or is vulnerable.

It's like saying your seatbelt failed when you decided not to wear it.

Lots of employers try to refuse vacation totally... and it is completely illegal. You can't refuse vacation for the purpose of not paying it out. And you can never refuse it in a way that causes someone to lose it. That's fraud and very, very illegal.

Terminals is ok... still has it's quirks too. Seems like literally every RDCM software does though. 😐

What kind of quirks do you notice? I've never noticed any with Terminals and I've been using it for several years now (and it's continually in development). You've definitely piqued my interest now :D.

Copy & paste doesn't work Window resize has a chance to crash the connection Connection handling like dafyre said

What Antivirus do you use, @thwr ? I have to specifically allow some apps to be able to copy & paste in Webroot.

      Sophos, it's not causing this.

@Kelly said in Hyper-V homework question:

I posted this on that other site, but it appears that you do the teaming inside of Hyper-V, and not in the host OS: http://www.serverwatch.com/server-tutorials/configuring-nic-teaming-for-virtual-machines-with-hyper-v-3.0.html.

As soon as the team is added, connectivity is lost. Can't even get as far as adding the adapter before connectivity is lost.

So... once you create the virtual switch in Hyper-V Manager Virtual Switch Manager, using the NIC Team you created on the Host OS, all connectivity is lost?

At that point, what do the event logs say? Is there some kind of weird MAC conflict? When you look at the connection status of the virtual switch in Control Panel -> Network Connections, what does it look like? Are you getting a 169 address? Is it all 0's? What's actually going on and what does Event Viewer say?
