@Mike-Davis said in ubnt guest wireless or separate VLAN?:

My understanding of how Ubiquiti handles guest mode is that it drops packets destined for internal networks. What I don't know is like I think some others were getting at - what if the user tries to go to another local subnet outside the subnet their on. I guess I'll just keep the VLAN thing.

My understanding is that it totally drops those packets too. In some ways, that makes it more secure than a VLAN because just hijacking a physical switch is not enough to grab the packets.

Thanks to those of you that offered a suggestion. I built a second RDS server and applied my group policy and browsing was fine. I then started to think about what I needed to do to move it in to production and replace the one that had the browsing issue. Then it hit me.... I have load balancing on my SonicWall. RDS is mapped through the firewall on https. Therefore requests that went out over https could go out over either interface, but always came back on one. This is why it would sometimes work. This is also why most other sites would work, but https (in this case Office 365 which always goes over https) would only work once in a while. Adding a route to force all traffic from the RDS server out over the interface that traffic will come in on fixed the problem.

Got it working. The firewall rule was in the wrong section of the firewall.

You had it on eth0 local instead of eth0 in?

      Yuppers.

@dafyre I know on one of my Dell machines I did a new driver that seemed to fix the vmq performance issue; on the other I did just completely shut it off.

I'd be less hesitant to leave it enabled if I could trust it to not cause problems.

Correct, you would want to change your servers first. so that devices in the new range can get answers back.

In my case, printers are always DHCP reservations. So as soon as I update the DHCP scope that will come down.

I've seen you post that before - I think I need to adapt that.

Everything is DHCP reservations except the core server infrastructure, HOST, DC, DHCP, and the Router. Exverything else is DHCP reservations, Printers, secondary servers, PBX, everything. Desktops and phones, just normal DHCP.
