To really cut costs and meet your long term scale requirements....

Four of these WD Red 4TB drives coming out to $620

And this Dell R410 server: $800

You are looking at $1,419 to purchase and somewhere between $50 and $100 per month for hosting costs.

Your entire first year could cost no more than $2,019 and each additional year only $600 for a full 8TB of capacity in RAID 10.

I have no idea how Azure licenses stuff - I wouldn't have thought that you could buy a Datacenter server license for MS's own cloud solution, but what do I know?

I think that DC might be the license that is provided. I do not believe that you can bring your own license, but what you get does come with a license of some sort.

Getting a DC license in that case seems weird to me then, unless it allows you more resource usage than standard (does it in Server 2012 R2?) Of course it allow allows for you to run all the VMs under a single hardware server as well - but I'm guessing that the licensing you're getting as part of Azure isn't a full DC license, additionally, because it is cloud based, you wouldn't be properly licensed in a situation like that anyway since MS could move your workload onto different hardware without you ever knowing it, and now you'd be out of compliance.

So, if you really need to run 10 servers on Azure, you just need to purchase 10 instances, right?

Other thing to consider is the larger your power overhead the cooler the PSU will run, the longer it will last. The holy trinity of electronics life.

MTBF of caps vs operating temp (very rough guide but gives you a solid feel for the effect of temp on electronics). About every 10c you go up, life goes down by half.

Panama does spy on unencrypted emails. But that is not surprising.

Found this on Googles Support site:

    Force browser processes to close

Chrome uses a "multiple processes architecture", which means its processes are designed to work independent of one another. So issues in one tab shouldn’t affect the performance of other tabs or the overall responsiveness of the browser.

What happens when one process keeps the others from working or closing Chrome completely?

How come my users never understand the simple things, like how to connect to the VPN. Launch the application, click connect, enter your password.

Probably because no one makes them. People rarely learn how to do things if they are not required to. Why bother if you can have someone else do it for you.

I support in many cases that it might be more efficient for some tasks, maybe not connecting to the VPN, be done by IT if they are not common or simple tasks.

I think this ruling leans more towards, "You'd better follow best practices with regards to private client information (which isn't it all private), and if you don't and are breached, regardless of the cause you'll be fined for said breach."

Which is all good. Because it is qualified with "you'd better follow best practices".

Yeah that didn't happen we had to go and pick up yet another consumer drive, this one at 4TB.

We're at least taking our backup now.

That's an odd answer - especially given they are apparently introducing a new system with Hylafax.

That is not an odd answer. They have an existing VM infrastructure. Normal business do not look to change core infrastructure every time they look at adding a new VM for some task or another.

Asking if there is any compatibility issues is a very normal thing that has to be done with ANY system.

Answer the question that was asked without tossing in craptastical bias.

Want to toss in the rest of your opinion? Great! Don't lead with it.

Back to the OP's question. I have never ran any type of 2008R2 Hyper-V servers. I know that Hyper-V prior to 2012 had many issues compared to ESXi. Which is why all of my clients started out on the virtualization path using VMWare.

Of course, the Mac crashed completely only a few minutes into trying to use this on the LG. Probably unrelated, it crashed three times in the last two hours, only once while attached to the TV.

    Hi Scott-
Just found out about this site - thanks for the ioSafe mention. Perfect application btw. The ioSafe 214 now comes with drive options - all new loaded ioSafe NAS products contain WD Red Drives by default and have for several months now. We'll be working on updating the product description in the field over time. Also, all NAS units can be ordered with Enterprise Grade Drives as an option.

Redundant NICs are an option on the 1515+ but not the 214.

    Hope that helps!

How long has the RAID been sitting? RAID 1 should not take very long, even with large drives, to sync up.
