This isn't working remotely. This is remote datacenter that the closest we have people to is 8hrs or so away. Most for Hands to rack stuff etc.

I think you need to look up SSL for Apache if you are trying to encrypt ownCloud. I think someone has a guide on here somewhere about it.

I think @JaredBusch has it in his 8.2 guide. I think he did self signed though. I'm unsure of how to do this on linux with digicert or something similar

It was a self signed for the example. but I use letsencrypt myself. Some clients using ownCloud have StartSSL certs.

Can you, yes 🙂 It won't damage anything. Will it work? Not likely. You can't do this with any other OS or hypervisor, you can't do it with Xen either. That's why Xen has to be installed rather than there just being an image that you run. The installation process is the process of customizing it for your hardware.

Wow, you're not kidding about that. Even gives you the current available entropy from /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail. I've never seen something give you this much information and be so easy to get running.

That's not true. You either use Downgrade rights from the OEM licesnse or from another package on them machine. You don't get to use downgrade rights from another package then transfer the OEM licesnse to another system.. It doesn't work that way. You can never transfer an OEM license.

You're misunderstanding what I said.

Let's say you have an older Win 2008 OEM server. And you have a brand new 2012 OEM server.

you can use the media and CD key that came with the 2008 OEM to install Windows onto the 2012 OEM server.

Obtaining the software and keys has always been left up to the end user/company to obtain when using downgrade rights of OEM products. Of course VL licenses give the media and keys in the portal, but OEM users don't have access to that.

So if they couldn't use the cd and key from something else they own, how would they be able to install downgrade?

It would have been awesome if MS would have provided a portal to register your OEM licenses and hence allowing the download of a lower level key/media - but they never did this.

Well that's different. That's not the license. That's a key. That's different.

I blame a lot of this on regulations being stupid.

In 2000 I was hired by SBC to work for their new DSL support division called Advanced Solutions, Inc. (ASI). SBC had been mandatated by the FCC to create ASI as a separate entity as a condition of the Ameritech merger.

Part of making it a completely separate company also meant that ASI was legally not allowed to directly use SBC resources for anything. To get a CO tech to rewire a single circuit on a DSLAM was a multi hour process.

As for an account number. No thanks. not going to get it from me. Then again I also do not have a checkbook. I pay the minimal fee to get a money order when I rarely (typically not even once a year) need to pay that way.

In DokuWiki that would be namespaces. The only problem I've seen with categorizing in DokuWiki are people accidentally making a page in the root namespace, otherwise it's pretty simple.

Yeah, the namespace system adds a lot of complication for end users.

Anyway I filed a charge back and now they are harassing me with a credit collection agency and threatening to sue me if I don't give them the money back along with a $200 fee.

I used them a year ago and they weren't like this. I had them escalate the ticket via Chat and still nothing happened on it.

Many Linux installs (not mine, but many) have the GUI libraries there but no GUI running. Meaning that the code is around but the services don't run. So the attack surface remains small and the CPU and memory are not being used unnecessarily but if you need to fire something up with a GUI, you can.

In the Linux world, we do "minimal" server installs and don't install those libraries. But lots of people go for more bloated installs that have that stuff there.

I don't know. I ended up setting up the necessary VMs on other hosts and started rebuilding this one since it has been having stability issues in the last few weeks.
