Do you have any pointers on how to configure postfix for this?

Lots of guides when googling "postfix smtp relay"

      Here is one:
      https://www.lisenet.com/2018/configure-postfix-to-relay-mail-to-an-external-smtp-server-on-centos-7/

Thanks! It looks simple enough and I hope it is.

When I looked at the postfix documention it seems like it's a lot more complicated than that.

is CentOS still where people want to be for things like this?

Not generally and never CentOS 7.

Jokes aside, Mailcow works very well and the author's support is awesome; this one I use and recommend.
I would say that Mailcheap's web site has lots of information, but that's me. I don't use it as I host my own email (besides using Office 365/G Suite/others depending on the client). I just seemed to me that it checked all @thwr needs while being recommended by people I trust.

So the alerts are meant to be delievered via SMTP, therefore they are "email files" without the SMTP portion. Hence they are email.

There is no such thing. You can't just call all text files "email". If you do, literally everything is email. So the term is now lost. Go pick up your email from the dry cleaners so you can be home in time to eat your email for dinner.

hahahah I laughed way to hard when I read that on my phone!

Ya, idk. I can still get mail but I just got one this morning from Friday so it's not just the interfaces.

      Preach it brother

We have folder redirection on for this client* so imagine the fun when they save a PST in mydocs
