Even paid for, it's decently hard to beat. It is a very good product.

Question about server licensing affected by adding multiple networks in a domain?

As others said, you are clear here. Licensing is by the number of servers deployed, and the number of users on the network. AD is covered by those things, it's an "included feature" once you are covered otherwise. There is no specific licensing for AD, only for the server/user combo. So you can deploy AD in any configuration that makes sense for you. The licensing will remain the same whether you use AD in some complicated matter, just one domain, or even not at all.

So I think I "may" have fixed it. I upped the logging level in Samba and noticed that it was a NTLM auth problem.

So I added ntlm auth = yes which allows NTLMv1 clients to connect in the smb.conf file.

SAMBA 4.5 changed the default method of NTLM to NTLMv2 clients only. Older clients that don't use NTLMv2 can't connect without changing this setting.

What a PITA that was to diagnose.

For me, I do auto funding but only in the range of $50-80 per hit.
This way I get alerts on my iPhone from my c/c every time a VOIP replenish charge goes through.

I also have International calls disabled.

@scottalanmiller no, since we talked about it the last time, I don't feel like this a limitation any more, or at least not nearly to the degree that I used to. I am at the point where If I think we need a solution that I think of as "cloud", or if I think someone else would think of it as "cloud", then I am going to pursue it anyways. I've earned a lot of leverage and my opinion holds a lot of respect within my company now because I have demonstrated that I try and approach everything from a business perspective. A lot of it is just the trust they have in me. So for me personally, I no longer feel burdened by this, but it has been the company's historical position.

5:30-6:00 pm and he manually restarts everything and then everything works fine.
      Right now I

So for us following along at home, what was the actual problem and what was the fix? It looks like you were saying that the MSE updates were running at 5:30 or whenever, but was it actually trying to run a scan at that time? Was that the actual cause of the slowdowns?

The problem was that MSE was installing updates daily at 5-5:30 causing the Point of Sale that runs off of that PC to freeze and lock up until they were restarted.
      The fix?
I excluded our application directory from MSE updates and havent had a problem in 3 days.
I have checked and the updates are still coming in , but no system lock ups.

I don't see the correlation. How is excluding a directory from updates even a thing? I can see excluding a directory from a scan, but MSE doesn't get updates based on directories.

      This is what I know : okay? Stay with me here;

My terminals on the front of house were locking up every time a Security Update came through on my Back office PC. Causing the Site to have to restart the terminals manually every time at the same time, Daily.

After excluding the Directory for my application, I haven't had an issue in 3 days, and counting at multiple of my Windows 7 Sites.

Could it be that the updates were spinning up more RAM to install these updates?

Could it be that The System was False Positive hitting as @Dashrender suggested?

I wonder if it wasn't also running a scan at the same time using the newly installed updates? That is the only thing that makes sense. I wont argue with the results, I was just not satisfied with the explanation, because I couldn't follow the logic.

I tend to agree that a scan must be happening - otherwise updates alone shouldn't affect the operation of the PC.

Even the Windows RDP client does allow saving creds, it's a commonly used setup.

      https://www.nextofwindows.com/how-to-save-password-in-a-remote-desktop-connection-in-windows-8

lol I looked for that, but forgot to click advanced.

Still doesn't solve the problem using using a horrible password (length along is horrible to some) each time you want to log into your box.

Sure, but neither does a VPN. You can control the passwords in either case, or you can let the end user use horrible passwords in either case. The VPN doesn't change the basic issue.

Sure. and now we're just running in circles.

I did start by saying you are correct.

      🙂

At the end, VPNs just don't solve those problems. A VPN's benefit is only in having a second mechanism, if it is kept completely decoupled from the original. But it's a poor approach when it is used to cover up a lack of security applied to the core protocol.
