If you really feel point and clicky, EaseUS Todo Backup will clone. But as others have said, DD is easiest.

Once the Installation GUI comes up, I'm going to customize my installation. Desktops are nice to look at from time to time.

It's completely unneeded, but whatever. I want it.

So customize your installation and select "Server with GUI" else select "File and Print Server" for basic file share functionality in a CLI.

      Select Done.

Select your partitioning, the basics are fine. Click into and then click done.

      Lastly click "Begin Installation"

Set your Root password and follow the onscreen guides. Create additional users if you need them. (Which you should. No one should use the root account for everything)

Sure, you can manually build your image in a VM, but how much time are you spending on that? MDT can do the whole thing for you.

Frankly for SMB it's probably not worth worrying about MDT, but larger shops, perhaps it is.

The initial image creation took a few hours investment sure. But otherwise it's just a matter of updating the VM with System and Security patches and software updates.

Which has to be done either way.

So "maintaining the VM" isn't much overhead.

@johnhooks Probably considering how few drives those might actually go through....

You'd be better of purchasing a bearing press, and high powered magnets.

They're solid steel. They'll go through. The plastic never holds up like in the picture, the petals come off.

None at all, I would avoid PS2 completely if I was implementing a Thin Client Setup.

I was just looking up Linux Thin clients and came across that "guide".

And, of course, this is from the array itself. The RAID controller should have a RAM cache. That can, depending on the workload, make a truly massive difference especially if you have 1GB or more.

if it is an emergency and for a client you haven't dealt with before - contract, terms of sale, before the work starts
problem is that best of intentions are often forgotten - when the fire is out.
i agree with the video - get paid then and there. get authorization, credit card, whatever
you don't want to be in court chasing unpaid debt. only the lawyer wins.
set out expectation before you start work - ie when the pain is still current. and get it in writing.
but this must all be done BEFORE you start - anything.

I use the remote control software that comes with System Centre Configuration Manager for work stations and just the standard RDP software that is built into Windows for accessing our servers.

I don't like how RDCM doesn't pass all keyboard shortcuts. Total deal breaker.
It also messes with my head having it in a window.

I'm at X for 110 PCs and 10 servers... so we're doing better, but my pay is higher than Scott's number too.

Right, I was targeting someone that was principally focused on desktops. And it came out very high. The enterprise numbers that I have heard are like $1,000 - $1,500 per desktop, per year.

I'm guessing we are closer to the higher range that you mentioned.. that's all I was trying to say.

Start with the single point of what they want, in this case two servers to cover the lost off one, then explain that the likeliness of a power failure is higher than the server failing, that the AC failing is higher than a single server failing, that perhaps a tornado or other natural disaster is higher than the server failing. Of course you'll have to find all of the stats as they relate to you.

Then explain that it's pointless in covering the server if you don't take care of those things first.

I'm not sure where it came from but Scott said that Dell server have a 4 hour out of 8 year expectation of down time.
