    • RE: Resume work

@travisdh1 I've been searching on Indeed, Monster, Linkedin, and DICE. But so far I have only had 2 interviews. One went well, made it to final rounds. The other went really well, and they said they thought I deserved more money than the job offered and wanted to see if I was interested in other higher paying jobs with the company...I said yes, but not to count me out for this one. Then I got the "you haven't been selected" letter.

This was from a fortune 500 company so it wasn't "Jimbo's or Pat's". I'm really trying nearly anything really.

I get called by 'recruiters' in India who can barely speak english but not much else. I guess it's a tough market right now.

It's funny, I'm not used to applying for a job and not getting it. In the past if I applied for 3 places I usually had offers from 2.

I know that there are a lot of 'fake' jobs out there, but I am not getting any hits despite my eperience and wonder if it's my resume. Can anyone suggest a resume writing company that won't break the bank?

      1. I do not think that you resume is the main reason that you are not "getting any hits" (although you can and should improve it). I have done hundreds of interviews (as employer) and I would call you if I offer the job that you want (sysadmin, helpdesk manager...)
      2. You should describe your experience in CCWtech in more detail where it is in your favor. For example, you can name more tools that you are expereinced with (Powershell, KVM, VMWare, HyperV, XCP-NG, Ansible, Chef, Puppet.....)
It would be great if you can list projects or achievements that you have done.
      3. Have you managed other people? If you have, it should be clearly stated in resume. I do not see it in your resume, and it is important experience for any managing position (like Helpdesk Manager)
      4. Email address in your resume should be personal, not business (unless you are owner os CCWtech)

Note: Are your jobs at Police and CCW really overlap from 2008-2014 as it states in you resume?

      1 - Thanks.
2 - Ok, adding some to my resume
      3 - Noted and added
      4 - I am the owner

      And yes, there is overlap.

I know there is a tough market right now... I have only had 2 places interview me...

On one, I talked to the hiring manager, it was odd, she told me that most of her interviews only went 20 minutes but we talked for about an hour... she told me she wasn't sure she could give me enough money to make me want the job... Which I replied to not count me out because of that. She even asked that if I was given an offer and turned it down if she could pass my resume along to other managers there for higher paying jobs, which I said yes, but told her again not to count me out for this job... 2.5 weeks later after hearing nothing I got the standard "We have moved on without you" email...

I'm still applying and will try with these new tweaks and see what happens.

    • RE: Dymo labelwriter 550 over IOGear print server installation

@Pete-S Called IOGear, their engineers say they don't really support DYMO. That's it's a 50/50 chance if it works or not.

Honestly best to avoid DYMO at all costs now that they make you ONLY use DYMO branded labels.

      But that's another conversation completely.

@favianmedina I am wondering because DYMO has something blocking the use of another brand of print server because of the technology in the 550 that makes it so that you can only use their labels. I don't know for sure. If this is a new printer have you contacted DYMO?

AFAIK, Even VNC doesn't work on Wayland yet.

      Nor does MeshCentral

Really? Now I need to go try that when I have a minute.

I just confirmed that mine is working on the default Fedora 37 desktop using both Firefox and Chromium.

      Wayland with MeshCentral?

You SURE you are on Wayland?

Isn't Wayland the default for Fedora now? I'm using the stock Fedora, so I'm thinking I am.

Double check that. Maybe you updated from something with X.org.

Fresh install. Wiped root before installing (it was way behind, no point in upgrading).

Do you have NVIDIA drivers on the system? Those will revert you back to X.Org

Yep, sure do. Guess it's not wayland then.

      You can check with

      loginctl

      and

      '''
      loginctl show-session -p Type <sessionid>

      loginctl show-session -p Type 2
      Type=wayland

Well shoot, are my Nvidia drivers not working? The more I find out, the more things I need to look at/fix.

What do you have it set to use?

      @Pete-S said in Running X11 - Ubuntu 22.10 - Should I care?:

The info below is from Debian but should be the same under Ubuntu.

GDM (GNOME Display Manager) will automatically use Wayland when supported, except when using the proprietary NVIDIA driver, in which case it will fall back to X11 due to instability.

To use the X11 backend by default, uncomment the WaylandEnable=false line in the /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf file.

It is using NVIDIA Drivers so that must be why. Thanks!

I don't think you should care, really -- as long as your stuff is working how you want it to.

I prefer X11 still because of support for things like VNC and such. When Wayland gets that ironed out good, I may consider switching again.

Kinda what I was thinking but my OCD makes me think of it as 'broken'... LOL. Thanks!

    • Running X11 - Ubuntu 22.10 - Should I care?

I am running X11 on Ubuntu 22.10. First of all, I am not sure if I should really care that I am not using Wayland. I don't know how much of a big deal it is or if I should just be happy things seem to be working well.

I AM Running Nvida for video - I have seen in the past where this MAY be a cause but I don't know if that is still true.

On the login screen, I do NOT have a gear icon so I can choose the session I want to use for some reason.

The only edit that I have made is that in grub I changed this line:

      GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="text nomodeset"

      1. I like having the text on bootup instead of the regular screen because, I think it looks cool. Yeah, I know... Silly but I like it.
      2. The nomodeset is required because without it it gets stuck on boot... An issue with NVIDIA.

So I am not sure if it's a big deal or not it's just weird to me that in previous versions of Ubuntu I did see I could change.
