Ya we def couldn't do CFD Solves with GPUs. Our new cluster has 20 nodes with 20 cores each.

      Clustered?

They use a job scheduler to read and spread the load over free nodes. So they can be used together or separately.

They all have an infiniband backplane too.

MMmmm, good stuff. Any sort of job scheduler means they are being used as a cluster. Really all a cluster needs is something to tell everything where to run what. At least as I've always understood them.

      Infiniband is just good stuff.

Right. I didn't want people thinking it was like a RHCS or something like that. It's a separate scheduler.

Ya we have a couple guys that will generate around 450-500GB per day of solves. We need the speed lol.

@wrx7m said in Looking for a new phone here is the top 5:

@scottalanmiller Why do you "need" iOS?

Because I travel internationally and the ability to get repairs and support and for the devices to be reliable are critical for safety. I've made the mistake of switching off of iOS to Android while travelling before and was left dangerously out of touch. A mistake that I won't repeat.

when was that? Android is much more mature today. I'll definitely give you that Android 2-4 years ago could leave you wanting compared to the "it just works" of the iPhone.

That's exactly what everyone said at the time. I've heard the rhetoric ad nauseum. Android "used to be bad", but it is good now. No one has problems... until you cant get one that works and then everyone comes out and says "well except for X problems on any device not made by Y" and that info always conflicts with what all the other Android people say. Hearing it today just reinforces my concerns about Android. It's the same statements repeated now as then.

But you can say the same thing about iPhones - features that simply don't exist. Who knows.. I might just be blowing smoke up my own ass right now, I haven't been on a modern Android in nearly 2 years.

that said, my wife has a S6 and likes it just fine, never complains, it does what she wants - but then again, like me she barely uses its. She has email, calendar, texting, calling and words with friends - she's happy.

This is the same conversation every time. Yes, even at the time I knew lots of people that adored their Androids. But none of them could get me a device that was reliable and, it turned out, most of them simply didn't use theirs enough to know that they were missing calls, texts or emails. In case after case the people who raved about their phones simply weren't in situations to notice or care when communications channels went out for a day or two (until the phone rebooted) and so they felt that they worked great because, for them not needing them to do anything, they did.

Oh I know I'm not that out of touch. I might be able to go a few hours without realizing, but never a whole day.
But I'm sure there are others who are.. hey - they kids using instagram.

Problem is... it's all three. We tested Android after Android and normally one or two functions would work. Only if you consistently get calls, texts AND emails all the time would you notice. Most people do not, so pretty much everyone thought that their phones were working. Like me right now, I could go months without getting a call and not notice at all. I accept no voice calls and my phone is set to not ring. So I would never know.

Has own cloud officially made any statement? I thought that were still running for now

ownCloud, Inc. the company that we have dealt with and know was gone immediately (twelve hours.) Literally the company just closed down and everyone was fired. So we have no contacts there now. All of the people that we knew are gone.

ownCloud Germany is still limping along but has no communications channels as ownCloud Inc. handled all of that out of Boston. So no one has heard from them and there are questions about their ability to provide American services.

Yeah, That's hard to believe unless the 2FA system was compromised - i.e. more likely disabled.

I saw a few reports they were asking for compromised users to contact them, and it turned out no one actually had 2FA turned on as they said they did.

But I've been away from a screen for a few days, so we'll see what my searches today find me.

They have other security features as well.

There was a recent trojan going around that uses TeamViewer to do the dirty work. I wonder if that is what caused the issue.

But, no need to talk about that here since I've already discussed that in the other thread. (Which I have not seen any updates on.)

those accounts were compromised because the account owner didn't follow best practice and use a different password for each site, and a lesser site was compromised.

@Carnival-Boy said in Twitter Snapchat battle rages on with Snapchat the leader:

Mostly popular with kids I believe, where not keeping a record is considered a key selling point.

Yes, it's purely for kids. It's the hipster middle schooler messaging platform. For people that any record of what they said would be embarrassing.

I think that these kids are going to seriously regret Snapchat when they get older. Taking all the effort to record their lives... and burning it as they went. It's the scorched earth policy for your own life.

I'm sure they will be a little unhappy to not have all the cool photos - and those who do have a half a brain are taking a second picture in a more permanent app - but really, do you think most tweens/teens want to keep that crap around forever? Don't you think that they will migrate away from snapchat as they get older/wiser and realize the childness that is snapchat? But I think it could be fun/etc for the ability to blast something for a short time. But what crazy teens don't realize is that anyone can make it permanent by capturing the screen on the phone.

Clearly they don't WANT to keep it around, but they will want to HAVE kept it once they realize that they literally threw away their childhoods.

Really? that ass picture you talked about? they will want that in 10-20-30 years? What I don't know - are kids ONLY using snapchat, and never taking any more permanent pictures? or, are they smart enough to use both?

Well I have no idea, but Snapchat users tend to be of the "only Snapchat" from what I can tell. And for obvious reasons... if you know what you are doing you'd never use Snapchat, if you are using Snapchat, chances are you are not thinking through the consequences. So the use of it nearly always creates the later situation.

And ARE you taking pictures of your butt? I'm not aware of that being a big problem. It's all the selfies and parties and high school graduations and such. And, in case you've never tried to do something like this, if you are taking pictures of an event for Snapchat, the opportunities to take those pics for something else are likely lost. Things rarely happen over and over for you to "capture the moment" again. So using Snapchat throws all of that stuff away.

Decentralized would be multiple co-lo's housing your equipment I'd think.

Mutiple locations, one way or another. NTG is fully decrentralized... users are not centralized and support systems are not centralized. We use multiple datacenters from multiple vendors. This has downsides too, of course.

Yeah, if it took the laundry and folded it, now you've got a marketable product. Stand there and feed items into it in a proper orientation? Might as well have just folded it yourself and saved time, electricity, money, and a little sanity. Maybe the true intent of this device is to get lazy people to quit crabbing about folding laundry. Once they see this thing, they can't help but admit just doing it makes more sense and takes less effort.
