I had a similar problem with a Lenovo laptop (again purchased before SuperFish). The user finally agreed to have me send it for service, no issues reported since then. It clearly had a hardware problem as I rebuild the OS at least twice before sending in for service.

@Dashrender The pyramid power platform would disappear rather quickly as everything becomes automated.

No further need to have "leaders" etc.

That's not true at all. AI can automate production to an extreme degree, but it isn't likely to have any useful place in automating leadership.

I'm not sure it will replace it but I think it could go a long way to informing it. Using some of the same techniques we use for big data analytics could be a boon for informed leadership.

That's a totally different concept, though, not related to what we are discussing here and is something that they've had for a very, very long time already.

Start looking for a new job immediately. You are 5 months pregnant not 8.5 months. So I wouldn't say that employers wouldn't hire you. I am sure you will probably get discriminated against since you are pregnant, but I don't believe that is going to be the case with every employer. Some may actually feel for your situation (certainly women and probably some men).

And it is illegal for the potential employer to even record that information or pass it along.

@DustinB3403 said in Microsoft Outage affected Federated Domains:

So the way ADFS works (here) is that when a client attempts to access say, email, they hit microsoft, which forwards the request to our exchange server to confirm the user details, and then our server redirects the request back to microsoft to access email.

This is a long handshake. Just have autodiscover setup and configured that Microsoft is syncing our details from exchange, and allowing people to authenticate against what microsoft has for email is way "cleaner".

And way less of a headache (like the past 4 days)

I suppose I see what you're saying AD sync can give you this. So what other features of ADFS is @coliver getting that AD sync doesn't provide?

I honestly have no clue what features are included. I haven't done anything (besides the work over these past 4 days) to try and find what was broke.

      I'm not an exchange guy.

Day 4 and and Autodiscover is still broken. Microsoft should be calling me any minute.

      Did they?

Ha.. yes they did and there were additional configuration changes made so that users are authentication against out on premise server, but the cached records that O365 collects.

And there is a new issue that I've been dealing with for a few days (4) were we apparently can't sync users / password / dl changes etc.

Even though the sync says everything is functional.

My argument was in regards to the people I work around and their broken mindset of "everyone needs access" or "just add the everyone group".

My OP I thought was very clear in that I was ranting a bit. But ok...

Well, in those cases, who should be blocked from access, do you feel?

By default I would say "not everyone".

Allow even an existing security group. But the "everyone" security group is not providing any security.

Might as well allow anonymous access.

Everyone does mean anonymous. This might just be a language thing. Someone outside of IT should not be aware of the "everyone" group. If they are saying "everyone" they should not be meaning that group, they probably just mean "Domain Users."

Everyone does not include anonymous. It is just about everything up to that point including guest and service accounts: https://blog.varonis.com/the-difference-between-everyone-and-authenticated-users/.

Server 2012 (maybe R2?) added the ability to have a backup/failover DHCP server in the Windows world.

But this is a waste of time.

Make a backup of your DHCP server config manually if you are worried about the VM hosting the service going south but not being restored.

I think you might have failed long before you come to this point.

Why not back this whole thing up.

On your website that talks about your services, have a button that says - test my connection to make sure this service will work for you. have you web team install their own speed test - thing - and you can do a test directly from your own system to make sure they won't have any issues because they even look any further.

The issue with this is that we could potentially loose clients without even knowing about them. And we can still provide our service, just a less bandwidth intense variety of it.

Maybe just detect the speed and adapt accordingly.

Our system does this already, and the result is an unacceptable live product. There are other solutions, but others put the cart before the horse here and bought expensive software and are determined to "make it work".

      LOL - sunk cost fallacy

Yes it really is... I had a solid solution, explained why, and for 1 minuscule reason it was veto'd. Yet it offers us the best option, without the need to worry about the clients internet bandwidth....

so... just ask "how fast is your internet?"
