Claiming this is UEFI issue is false. This maybe an HP + UEFI issue, but it is not a UEFI issue.

We use Clonezilla at one client for applying the desktop images and we run 100% UEFI.
Those systems are all Dell though. We do not do any cloning at any of our clients that have HP systems.

You could also opt to purchase a few $25 poe injectors for the few phones that are required to have power all of the time and feed that from your UPS.

The cost difference for Poe switch vs non is 400$.... over 48 phones that’s less tha $10 ea

      Let’s move on from POE

But that's way more than wall warts typically. And the comparison is not against a normal switch, but against no switch. You don't need any switching at all beyond what you already have unless you go PoE, right?

That is not right. I'm 50% or more laptops. So I would need at least another 30 ports, but probably more like 40 ports to include phones in random locations.

Where you don't have ports today?

It's not that you are laptops. I think you are trying to imply that your laptops are wireless?

I may or may not have a wire there - but I definitely don't have a switch port connected to those wires. I replaced switches a while ago and didn't buy more than I needed for the APs, Printers, and Desktops.

yes the laptops are 100% wireless.

I see. Wherever we have a large amount of laptops, we wire them up for performance and stability.

My users have shown that when they have to manage plugs on a daily basis, they damage them regularly. We're lucky we don't have more issues with power connectors.

So eliminate the responsibility of having to plug things in.

Get a softphone and have people start using that wholesale.

huh? not sure where this came from?

today users move from station to station, only plugging in their power brick to power their laptops. They just use the phone at the desk they are sitting at that time.

I was responding to this comment. It didn't start from me, or you. Both of us responded to Dustin's topic.

Damn I just saw a bill from cox.

A single sip phone totally managed by them end to end, $51.00/m

      That includes:
      The phone
      DID
      Vmail
Management of the line from the phone all the way to cox.
Calling inside the USA, ie no long distance fees.

Very expected when you buy from an ISP.

@travisdh1 said in Am I being to over bearing? Printers:

@Dashrender That's what a dedicated label printer is for. They suck even harder than standard printers, but are so nice once they're working.

OK - So we looked into that option. The departments need 10+ labels at a time. The EHR is unable to send 10 label print requests to the label printer in one click. Instead, the user has to click print 10 times. Management has said - that is unacceptable.

      Therefore label printers are out.

Whooah, hold your horses here. There are plenty of label printers that could do that. You may not want to pay the price of a real label printer and you might not know that such a thing exists, but that doesn't change reality.

This is not a hardware issue. This is a EHR software issue. The vendor would need to change their software to do this - could they? likely very easily, but will they? unlikely. They only seem to care about advancing new things, not fixing, improving existing things.

While not related to the SIP function, I don't see any point currently in making a new thread.

if you want to add/change things in ARS (Automatic Route Selection) look here
      1fc36c91-9696-409c-a8f9-8f3bc77090c0-image.png

You'll see places to add your new SIP trunk under > Facility Groups > P1500 (or your own numbering scheme) > Trunk Groups/Nodes
in the right pane, right click and add.

@pchiodo said in Server license or VDI (or possibly desktop with Desktop Windows OS)?:

Probably do not need a server license. Most of these type of apps can be run in Client/Server mode on a desktop so I think you would be fine. Bigger question is how many people are going to use the app? Just one? then a desktop or a VDI would be fine. If there is more than 5 accessing then I would move to a 3 tier with a VM using Windows Server.

The number of users is actually irrelevant. What matters is the number of concurrent connections and the type of content being hosted.

This would fall outside of what MS has allowed in the Desktop licensing.

Depends on the mode... number via SMB, doesn't matter. Number by RDP matters.

I don't see how softphone would be any different than "hard"-phone.

Are you conflating headset with non-headset? Or wireless versus stationary?

Came in this morning - while still waiting to hear from the vendor for support - and it's working as desired... whatever was hanging it up must have tired itself out.

      Weird

It really was - I rebooted both the client PC and the server component for that system, I would have assumed it would have released whatever was locked... but nope. And the other two computers worked just fine that access the same system.

@Dashrender We've done network audits for all-Mac or blended-Mac companies and there's a particular mindset that seems to come on the Mac side that one rarely find on the PC side. It seems to carry over to the other lines as well in my experience.

Oh of course - for normal end users. And sadly for some IT personal as well.

Does anyone here use the vendor supplied drivers when Windows detects and installs everything in the device manager?

If so, under what cases do you do so? i.e. all possible vendor supplied drivers? only Chipset? only Video? etc...

Not generally. I do on HP systems for a few things like sound.

interesting - so for normal office users you install the HP sound driver? why? that is one I've never even considered (unless Windows itself didn't provide a working sound driver).

Laptops at one client all had sound issues until I switched to the HP supplied driver from the SoftPaq update process.

OK - that makes sense then. only doing it to solve a problem, not because HP's drivers are better or something.

I started doing this for all HP systems after that.

Using the SoftPaq updated to setup non HP crapware, just vendor drivers as supplied by HP.

I'm confirming - you install the softpaq installer software? than choose the non crapware to be installed?

      Yes
