      Some good points. I like the one that stated keep it lean and keep it mean.

      I've not gone over my Linux install as much as my Windows boxes,.. and not done nearly enough on Windows, but I generally attempt to shut down anything I am able to that isn't needed on Windows. It's not a good way to judge things, but when I see a system running 100 or more processes, I wonder what is going on.

      As the site mentions: "autossh comes in handy when you want to set up reverse SSH tunnels or mount remote folders over SSH. Essentially in any situation where persistent SSH sessions are required, autossh can be useful."

      @g.jacobse said:

      I rant that over in my mind, and it seemed that if the reboot failed, you would not get any type of email.

      If the reboot failed to run completely (like the system was down, cron had crashed, things were frozen) you would get no email either. You are making the system report on itself with is not good.

      That's why the system should reboot itself (no way around that) but the monitoring of whether it is up or not should be done externally.

      I see tihngs like that becoming common place. I think (and am suprised we haven't already seen many) HDMI docks for phones that do what that video does. I know one exists for Note 4. It's like $40 bucks. I may get one.

      But essentially, dock your phone to a device that has USB support for keyboard & mouse, and an HDMI connection, and BAM! instant computer.

      I've done it a few times with my tablet and a bluetooth keyboard. It's kinda neat, but not quite as useful without a trackball.

      Now to make our first organization, we will make a test one to get started.

      chef-server-ctl org-create SHORTNAME LONGNAME --association_user USERNAME -f filename

      That's the format, here is a real command:

      chef-server-ctl org-create test "Chef Testing NonProd" --association_user scott -f scott.pem

      I really wish that I could easily be on Linux 100% instead of Mac OSX, but I'll never learn Mac OSX well if I don't stick to it 😞 I do have VirtualBox 5 running the latest Linux Mint 17.2 on it and that runs pretty well. But type 2 VMs are just never snappy like a native desktop is 😞

      Really quite simple since NVM is so simple itself. Just used the standard curl + bash command to run the NVM install of the version of my choice (handling updates will have to come in a later version.) I use the install directory relocation option and that puts NVM into /usr/local/nvm rather than into the user's own folder. Then just source the newly installed nvm.sh file and run the NVM Node.js install command as usual. Voila.

      If this is CentOS you need to either turn off SELinux (probably best here) or reset the permissions again.
